Hello All, new member and poster here...

I am in the finishing stages of building a home and need to purchase lighting for the garage. Below are all the particulars, would you let me know if Im on the right track before I buy. I have basically got most all I know about LED fixtures from this site :)

The garage is approx 20' x 23' x 9ft and is drywalled & painted white. Attached is a drawing of my layout. 3 banks, 2 fixtures each with 2 bulbs each. Total 12 bulbs. These fixtures will be hard wired and surface mounted. The dotted line is the work bench.

I plan on using the bulbs and fixtures referenced in the "Best Light Fixture Ever" thread:

18W Diva Lite LED x12

Diva Lite LED Ready Strip Housing x6

So, opinions on how this setup will work out? Enough light?

Thanks...

I guess its hard to say since only you know what you will be doing in there. Im not going to be much help...Im in the same situation trying to decide on how many to install, but I its worth a shot.
Just by looking at your sketch I would recommend at least one more row. A few problems with running a set of lights down the center are; they can interfere with a conventional garage door opener and you will more likely to have shadows on the sides of the car. The later might not be a big deal to you, but I do a lot of wrenching so I want light hitting the sides very well.

My shop is 30x26 and has two single size doors, I plan on installing 12 or 15 of the 4' LED fixtures...Im still on the fence tho. I was dead set on 15 until I starting thinking about maybe putting ceiling fans or my remote garage door lights down the center.

If you make the rows you have continuous you would likely be OK. In other words add another light in the middle of each row. Possible move the middle row a little closer the bench. Put the bench lights on a separate switch.

I have a 34' x 50' garage and have 12 8' 4-bulb T8 fluorescent fixtures in it. The lighting is great but there is one thing that I would do differently if I had it to do all over again. I would definitely NOT go with electronic ballast fixtures; not that they are bad overall, but I cannot listen to "over-the-air" radio stations due to the interference from the electronic ballasts. I would replace them but that would cost a lot of $$$$........ and besides, they still have the original bulbs that I put in them when I built the garage (2007) and I can listen to my sirius radio or ipod.......... or I can shut off the lights and listen to the "over-the-air" radio........... good enough for now I suppose. Just food for thought.
