I am looking to build a garage. I am limited to 500 sq' So i chose this design. Some particulars. Its mainly for me to work on my HMMWV, second I was looking to put a Pendpak 10-A 2 post lift, have some of the common wall storage, air compressor, tool chests etc.

What I have read so far stats min 22x26. I know more space is better but im limited to 500sq' by the city for a standing structure near a creek that has an 8' drop at the end. If I go above 500 then I have to be 40' from the creek. (lame)

I was original going to go 24x 40 but as I mentioned wont work.

But Will this be enough is the question, it seems a bit tight, and
Attached is a diagram to show

the gray is the dimension of vehicle/tire carrier
Blue is wall cabinets
Black is the Bendpak lift

So any ideas would help...

thanks for any help or replys

Re: New Garage Build, needs imput.

To each his own if that will work for you..... I had a garage that was 26' deep x 28' wide... On the wall opposite the doors, I built a permanent workbench in the front of one one stall, and left the other stall open the full 26'...... learned that 26' is small enough without being cobbled up with a built in workbench hacking that workspace... The permanent workbench was removed and rebuilt into two smaller portable workbenches: problem solved.. Are you sure you want any headbanger wall cabinets on that wall either,, not me..

No im not set on cabinets. I just added them in there to see what the room would be like. I'm up for most anything. I'm just trying to see options that are out there. For me it would probably anything that will save space.

I did forget to mention that the i wanted a high sealing, probably 15' 2" with a 14' high garage door. :rocker:

Something isn't adding up. 22x26 is well over 500 sq ft. I would double-check with your zoning authority on whether those dimensions are allowed before you do any more planning.

Ya, that's what other people are saying is the bare min...

the pic that i attached shows the dimensions that I'm looking to do that will give me 500 sq ft. 20x25.

Looks like you've done a good job of figuring out your dimensions and placement of lift and other stuff. If 500 sqft is what you can have, then it is what it is. I think it will work, but you will have to be very inventive with storage so you don't end up with a bunch of stuff to be tripping over.

All I want to know is when we are saddling up for a ride in that bad boy? lol

Seriously, on the space, it sometimes helps me to relate dimensions to objects I see/touch everyday. For instance, your 5' on the sides looks good to me. FYI, a standard bathtub/shower combo unit 60" or 5' as well. The 3'4" dimension up front looks skinny to me. Keep in mind a typical front door is 36" or 3' so your uninterrupted space is just a little wider.

I do find some value to having benches up front and access to your tools, etc. Instead of running across the entire front of the garage, have you thought about making "L" shaped cabinets on each side, thereby freeing up the extra 16" in front of the Humvee? If you consider this, what about adding a smaller 9' or 10' wide door on that wall so you can pull up and drive through if needed? Or just open for light and/or fresh air.

If you do any of that, I'd re-think your 2 entry doors. Not sure I understand what is going on there. One seems sufficient, but you may have a unique situation.

Lastly, I would put in a wash sink at the bare minimum. If you could reconfigure to squeeze in a half bath, that would be idea....depending how far from the main house you are. I promise, late night projects and buddies shooting the **** and drinking a few cold ones will warrant that half bath. :)

Just a few thoughts.

hey thanks a lot, those are great ideas. Ill re visit and see if the half bath will work.

The two doors i put there because the house is on that side. But I like that idea of another door on the other end.

:rocker:

Keep the ideas coming love um.
