First , My name is Mike and I live in Snohomish County , Wa. and I've lurked here on and off for the past year .

Couple of questions as I am finally starting my garage . The garage is 25' wide and 26' deep with 14' walls . 2 doors are 9 x 9 insulated .

Tomorrow the PEX for the possible future heated floor is being installed and the pad poured on Tuesday . The plan is for a future lift . Unsure if it will be a 2 or a 4 post . I am having the builder route the piping around where the posts could be .

Preferences on 2 or 4 post ? How far to position the 2 post lift from the garage doors ?

I'm tempted to lean towards a 4 post as they are narrower... but is does take up more floor space :dunno::eyecrazy:

The back left of the shop , viewed from the garage doors , will be plumbed for toilet , sink and shower .

Work bench and shelving and toolboxes are going on the right side .

Will probably add a small loft at the back right for storage and a hang out, gaming area for the kids .

Will have a couple of windows up high on the back and rights side walls .

Thanks for your input/ideas .

Having worked with both two and four posters, I prefer two posters. They are just much easier to do a lot of work on as you dont have to jack the car up to do anything with the wheels off. Having said that, I always feel safer under a four post, and four post, can (if needs be) be used for something like a motor bike or really anything you want to get up off the floor, that you can physically lift onto a bench... providing you can get it up the ramp.

We were originally going to install a 2 post lift. After the garage was built we decided to install a 4 post lift. For some reason I don't feel safe under a 2 post lift. The 4 post really doesn't get in the way, you get used to it being there very quickly. You can leave it up if you want, it is great during winter storms, extra parking. If you buy a sliding jack to go between the rails, jacking a car up to remove the wheels is easy. Each type lift has it's pros/cons. I don't find it difficult to do any type of work on my 4 post. Also the 4 post does not have to be bolted down, (one of the deciding reasons we bought it) it can be moved around with casters on it even with a vehicle loaded on it. Just seemed easier to deal with to me. I bought the Bend Pak HD9XW extra wide, extra tall and extra long. I have not regretted my decision.
