New garage build.

Went to PB and dug around and discovered that free accts have limited bandwidth, meaning pics from an acct can only be viewed so many times per month. I've been using PB for years and never ran into that. Apparently on whatever day of the month I opened my acct, my pics will be visible again. Might be time to try something new.

Got the shingles on and the windows in before the rain got bad. Concrete guy has to redo the apron. Waiting on doors, siding, and metalwork. Soffits, gutters. Not bad for 4 days work. I know the pics aren't posting, but I'm gonna keep putting them up, in hopes that they will magically appear soon.

Did you use the same crew for your footings and retaining walls? If you did, you dumped a heavy load of coin on them. And even if you did not the flatwork crew should fix something like that with a smile on their face. Every job is a reference and one or two grumpy days can wipe out years of excellent work and good customer relations.
That's Old School thinking there. These days, it seems like a lot of these contractors are offended if you ask them to do what they agreed to do. They think it's ok to give lousy service because, face it, when is the next time I'll pour concrete? It could be years. But yes, I dumped a very heavy load of coin on the concrete. All to the same crew of 3.

Pics are back! The concrete guys are here right now re-pouring the apron in front. It held 1/2" of water when it rained. And they ain't happy. Something about not getting paid, or something. I wasn't listening.
I would have had them re pour the entire apron...

Is that an illusion or does the pad drain towards the door and into the shop?
It definitely drains to the right in the picture. Away from the door. As far as re-pouring the entire pad, I'm sure it will look much better after a few days. There was a groove where they sliced it, and they did a good job cutting it, plus they pinned the re-pour to the existing that was less than a month old. I'm sure it'll be ok, and if it's not, I'll make them re-do it.
Another setback. Got a phone call from Overhead Door Co today informing me that my door would be delivered on the 27th. That's almost 2 weeks later than they told me when I ordered it. My salesman tells me there's nothing he can do about it, they only get deliveries every 2 weeks. Had a nice long talk with his boss and told him, "Rather than refund my deposit, you need to call your factory, tell them to build the door right now, and put a guy in a pickup truck tonight to get it." I'm still waiting for a return phone call. I don't expect anything to change.

Good looking build! Its great to see someone who builds almost the same size as I did. I dont mean to offend you in any way, but most of the builds here are massive structures way bigger than I can ever dream of building myself. I am looking forward to see how you will do the interior and organizing. To bad with the apron, but it looks like its clearing water now?
Its funny, I had some of the experiences when it comes to contractors.. I bought a complete garage and they pre-built the walls offsite and craned them onto the foundation. With great help from friends and family I dug out the foundation, build formwork, pured the concrete and did the finish etc.. None of us had much experience with this kind of construction but everything went according to plan. The things that held us back was the "professionals", they who should deliver the excevator, mini loader etc. They had all of the sudden rented the compactloader to someone else when I needed it.... The building-company also messed up and delivered wrong type of trusses. I had to wait 14 days for new trusses to be built.. My dad always says "if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself". I guess there is some truth in that.. Offcourse there are good contractors out there and most of them do a good job, but its always those who do poor work you hear about.
Keep up the good work, and I look forward to see the next update! Here are two pictures from when I built my garage. All respect to the crane-company "Nor-Link" and the driver/operator who did a great job manouvering the big semi up the tight road to my house!

Hey Raybob, been reading through your thread. The building is looking good. But, I want to see what your going to be putting in it. Mainly what types of motorcycles are you going to have and what type of work will you be doing. I just joined this forum in order to get some ideas for my basement build for my motorcycles.

Just a bump. No real progress since 11/5. Had an insulation guy set up to do the walls last Monday. Another no-show. Haven't heard a thing from him. Contractor did come do the metal around the overhead door, so it's ready when Overhead Door shows up for the installation. Haven't heard a word from them. Really disappointed in Overhead Door Co. But my contractor says he'll be here early next week to finish up, and last I heard, the ohd will arrive Friday. Already set up with another insulation guy for the week after that. We'll see.
I'm not cutting these guys too much slack lately, given that they're 2 months plus late finishing up, but there is no way I'd walk away from a job that is this close to being finished. They packed it in at this point yesterday, came back today and finished. I'm normally a DIYer, but I thought I should farm this out to the pro's. Never again.
Well, it's finished. 2+ months late, but it looks really good. They did a great job on it, but it was a lot bigger headache than I wanted to deal with. I really don't understand why people can't just do what they agree to do, and do it promptly and properly.

More headaches. I decided to put leaf guards on the new garage gutters and had 'em do the house at the same time. This is a pic from the brochure.
And this is what I got. They bent up the drip edge to get the stuff under it. Pretty sure it's installed incorrectly. I don't think it's supposed to go under the drip edge. It looks like an amateur did it. And of course, the guy wants to argue about it. I'm waiting for a response from the manufacturer, to see if it's right.

Come on now. Standing on the ground you will never see it. I don't think the exposure on the drip rail is right. Around here the shingles start at the edge. You can not get the result in the leaf guard brochure with it done that way.
The only other thing that I can think of is that your leaf guards were too narrow for your gutters and the installer stuck strips of gutter material under the shingles to span the difference.

Finally got around to having the driveway poured. Had them rip out the apron that my original concrete guy screwed up, and pour a 12' drive that widens to the entire width of the garage. They're coming back tomorrow to pour a sidewalk to the house, and remove and replace the existing walks at the house.

i had a gutter contractor pull the same **** on me ,rolling up the drip edge , screws right thru the shingles , damaged shingles causing minor leaks. when i complained was told the job was correct. finallly got tired of their bs and got a friend to straighten out the mess. whats up with mangling the drip edge?

It seems to me they should have poured the space closest to the garage first?

I would take the re-pouring the entire apron for granted as well

Thought I'd resurrect this thread. Been really busy the last couple of years. Getting ready to retire. Finally found time to put the ceiling in. Got 12' panels and a Northern Tools drywall jack last week. Works great and the ceiling looks good. No problem handling the panels with Jack's help. That's right, I named it Jack.
