Building a vacation house in the mountains and will a 1 1/2 car garage/workshop area . They won`t be pouring the floor for several months yet , so I have some time . I plan to "paint/coat" it ... probably U Coat or something similar . Is there anything I need to tell the builder to do to make sure the concrete won`t cause me problems later ( vapor barrier & ???? ) .
Sorry , but I `m not really sure what questions to ask as I`ve never been in a position where I will have a brand new floor to work with .
Thanks .

Make sure he makes the relief cut right away. Many times bigger contractors get busy and don't get back and cut them as soon as they should. Also my floor has a power trowled slick finish,I hate it. My epoxy has taken care of the slick floor but to do it over I would tell the contractor no slick floors.

Make sure the cement floor is pitched twords the door. Thah way, all rain, slush will flow in one direction . out the door!

As for a drain in the floor. Most building codes will not alow it due to gas / oil vapors, or oil and gas liquids geting into the drain and exploding!

FYI - I know of several people here in IL that sold their house, and was required to cement in the drain as a term of the sale.

A 10mil or more vapor barrier. Trowel smooth, but not burnished, and it will be easier to prep when you paint. A strip drain right outside the door will help with keeping the water outside. And as above be sure the shinkage joints are cut right after pouring. If a cure and seal is used, request a waterbased dissipating one. That should do it. Send me a message when you get ready to coat and I will be glad to help you with a good system.
