New Garage Floor

I recently had new concrete floor poured in my garage, a vapor barrier was installed. Now I would like to do an epoxy coated floor. I have been researching epoxy coatings and have become extremely confused. I am a professional painter however none of my suppliers deal in epoxy coatings. They offer waterborne solutions, however I am a little leary of the waterborne coating. I would appreciate any help or guidance anyone could provide.

Epoxy Coat/Performance Epoxy has done wonders for me......done two of my own floors with it, and 5 others for/with friends. Contact rugerlady on this forum if she doesn't chime in on her own!

I just did my new shop floor with a product recommended to me by a friend of a friend. Its called Prosoco LS/CS, its a Lithium based concrete densifier. I know thats a mouth full. I was talked out of epoxy, they said the epoxy looks great and performs well if you dont plan on doing any heavy work jacks, welding etc. I was - they recomended a good smooth finish when they pour the concrete, wash it good and apply this stuff with a hudson sprayer and a microfiber mop. I did and it was very easy. its been a year and so far I am very pleased with this product. Water beeds up, oil wont penetrate and it does not dust. Clean up is very good and I was told it will take a polish very well (burnisher) I think my floor looks great and it is very easy to maintain. This is a good option but has to be planned at the pouring stage. This burnished system is good but it will never repel the really nasty materials(Brake fluid, gas) without a good urethane topcoat.

Your more of an expert than I- but so far, I have spilled oil, paint and thinner and tool coolant and all have cleaned right up, grant you I get to the spill asap maybe if it sat?? I was concerned about chipping and peeling of the epoxy in high work areas. Also the densifier that I put on could be done at any stage I did it 60 days after the pour. Just a thought.

There are a lot of good products on the market. Legacy, Epoxy Coat, of course ours and many many others. The biggest factor is going to be prep. Do that correct and buy a quality product.

What type of prep would a new cement floor require? I have yet to park the cars on it. As mentioned I am a painter, however I have never applied an epoxy coating. I have two children ages 9 and 7. I want a resilient coating, that isn't too slippery. I appreciate everyones advice so far. Another reason I want to do the coating is that I want to add it to my repitoire of services offered to my clients.

We would suggest grinding. We always suggest grinding. On a new floor that has not been sealed you can SOMETIMES acid etch. They key is knowing by the profile (like sandpaper) if it worked.

If you want to acid etch you can use muriatic acid or we offer a safer and very expensive gel based acid which is much safer to use and easier to neutralize. Most of the additional cost is the HazMat packaging and shipping.

You said you recently poured your floor....when exactly. Also, Epoxy Coat is just up the road from you in Mt clemens. You might want to look into a product called Vapor Lock to stop the moisture drive coming out of your concrete. before you coat

The floor was poured three weeks ago. I didnt realize epoxy coat was still around. I havent been to Mt. Clemens in a long time.
