I am talking to a local builder about garage floor coatings and he recommended using a product called "Chrome Seal" by a company called Specialty Concrete Products(SCP) instead of other epoxy products. Supposedly Chrome Seal has better adhesion than other epoxy products.

According to the SCP website, Chrome Seal is " a specially formulated 30% solids, solvent based acrylic sealer and curing agent specifically designed for sealing and protecting all types of colored and decorative concrete surfaces."

I have checked and cannot find any reviews on the product.

Does anybody know anything Chrome Seal or similar products?

Hey Simple Man, the product that he is recommending is a sealer that is applied over decorative concrete that has been colored or stained, such as an acid stain for example. It needs to be reapplied every year or so depending on how much traffic the area receives. If your garage floor is going to be stained or colored, then it may be what you want. You can even use acrylic sealers on bare concrete to get a glossy look. It's an inexpensive way to treat your bare concrete if you are on budget.

If you are looking at this product as a coating to protect your concrete and last for years, then you need to be looking at a good epoxy system. Many good quality epoxies are 100% solids or close to it. Acrylic sealers are only 1 to 2 mils thick where as a good epoxy system can be as much as 20 mils and more depending on the system and how many coats are applied.

I would be careful with any acrylic that is over 25% solids because it can go on too thick if you aren't careful. You can't build up acrylic because it will fracture, forming lines and what looks like air bubbles. Plus it won't stand up to abuse nearly as well as epoxy. You can check here if you want to learn more about garage floor coatings.

If it's a tough floor coating that you are looking for, there are quite a few good representatives of the different epoxy products that are on this forum that will gladly chip in and help you out.

Good luck!

Acrylic is thin and needs to be re-coated occasionally.
You can wax over it for better protection.

Beneficial where moisture issues live and naturally good outside for walks and patios.

Thanks for the input. I guess I'll look at other options. I don't want to use something that has to be reapplied every couple of years.
