My new 30X42 garage is almost complete, putting the primer paint on the walls this weekend, and the rest of the light fixtures.
My garage door openers have a thermostat on them, here in Indiana, the last week it's been rather warm for late November and early December, my garage temperature has ranged from 55f to 60f. without any auxiliary heat, I have a 100,000 btu. ceiling heater installed but not operational. I have R-30 insulation in the ceiling and R-15 in the sidewalls, one wall is connected to a conditioned room in the house. There are two double pane windows and two double pane insulated entrance doors. My garage doors are deluxe insulated with double pane glass. My heat gains are minimal at this time, also the wind hasn't been a factor, has anyone else experience this phenomenon. It is my belief when I get things completed I'm not going to need to use my auxiliary heat unless I want the temperature to be 70F.
Is this normal for a new attached garage of this size?
My son has a 25X28 garage, it's freezing in the winter in that garage, it's the only thing I can compare it too! This morning it's 30F. the garage temperature is 63F.

Yep, that sounds pretty good. We were between freezing and high 30s with rain and cloud cover from Thursday through Monday. My shop is 24x40, R-13 walls and ceiling. Ceiling is OBS with all the joints caulked. Coldest the shop got was around 52 late at night. Stayed about 56 during the day. I can heat the thing - with a little patience - using a 5000w electric. I have a 60K turbo propane heater and a 27K dual burner tank mount that haven't seen any use in 4 years. Built in 2011, it has been as low as around 42 in an extended below freezing cold. IIRC that was 2013, we were stuck home for 4 days because of heavy ice accumulations and no melt.

I segmented my shop with a 12x24 work area with benches and tools. Most of the detail work happens in there. I can keep that shirt sleeve temp (75+) with the 5000w and it hardly runs at all.

My 30x60 is insulated well, r-19 walls, r-10 slab, and r-50 attic, insulated overhead doors. But more importantly well sealed.

I heat it with a woodstove but we had a burn ban last week and overnight lows to 20 every night. The shop lost 4 degrees per day and really slowed down at 50 degrees. I don't believe it will freeze in the shop anymore.
