Im looking at getting this heater:

http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200395481_200395481

It uses a Nema 630P Plug according to the manual. I am looking to locate it on the other side of my garage on the ceiling. I am in IL just outside chicago, so everything *should* be in conduit from my understanding. It should be about 10-15ft pull up the wall to the receptacle mounted on the ceiling. My main box is a Siemens BR type.

My questions are;
- Will 10GA wire suffice? Or should I just run 8GA?
- I should use a double 30 breaker? (Just confirming)
- Are there any codes I should worry about for mounting the receptacle on the ceiling?

The panel is either a Siemens/Murray or a Eaton/Cutler-Hammer BR series. One or the other.

The Breaker should be a double pole breaker, thus one that has the handles joined together.

The heater you link to is a PORTABLE heater and should not be nor intended to be, permanently mounted.

For a heater, code will restrict you to a load of 80% of circuit capacity, thus a 30 amp circuit is restricted to 24 amps for heaters. Either heater draws less than 24 amps so a #10 wire is fine.

Just got a Northern flyer in the mail yesterday. They have a 17,065 BTU ceiling mount heater on sale. Reg $199, sale $149, with coupon $129. #27553/#21273 (note, web site shows 21273 no longer available) It appears the 27553 is on sale on the web site for $99.

Charles you are correct, I confused myself. It is a Eaton BR. I have a surge suppressor installed at the box.

The garage is a 10x20 attached with 3 doors, 2 entry and an 8Ft . All insulated, albeit not much on the 8ft. The walls are insulated / dry-walled on the main walls however the ceiling is open and un-insulated with an open roof vent. I am looking to add insulation in between the joists. I don't want to drywall and insulate the ceiling as I use it for large item storage that wont fit into the attic. I am looking to tear the drywall out next year and beef up the insulation and put drywall back on. I would like a heater thatll help, and im sure anything will at this point to keep it warm in there while I can get projects done this winter.

I was looking at that exact heater you linked to as well. However, it seemed the reviews weren't as good as the one that I linked to.

Another issue I might have is the service coming in is only 100a. I have a 36 position panel with 11 available. The beasts of the house are the Compressor, Stove and HVAC. I don't have any issues now with the main. I haven't popped any breaker in over 3 years.

I picked up that red heater a couple weeks back and am happy with it. Have a 24x24 fully insulated garage and it'll take it from 20s to comfy in about 1 to 1.5 hours.
