Terve! (=Hello in finnish)
Took 4 years to introduce myself, joined in 2006. At that time we were starting to look for a second hand property or an epmty lot. We ended up bying empty lot spring 2007, nothing for sale with my garage specs...
We've been living in our house now for good year, 16 months to be precise. Bottom floor is garage floor with two separate rooms for HVAC and that kind of stuff and the other one for warm storage and for my John...
My garage is 930sqft (86,4m2) which is relatively large with our standards. It's meant only for my hobby cars. Daily commuters, stay out! I've tried to build it as thoroughly as I can with all the details thought of. It's not near perfect, not at all, but a compromize between the given space and limited money. Can you imagine, I had to pay for the other two floors too that are above my garage, even though I'm not going to spend that much time on those floors. I know, I could have benefitted from better negotiation skills in the first hand, too late now... Just kidding you guys, my wife has been very understanding when I have the urge to go to my garage in the middle of the night just to dream it as ready.
I've acquired mainly second hand steel cabinets and drawers, but in excellent conditions. I have a small (42sqft) welding/grinding room (my only luxury item), still misses the welding gas vent though. I have also brand new up-right drilling machine with automatic feed, integrated cutting oil circulation etc. Looking forward to get that one in use. Next to that is a metal lathe, span 3 ft and maximum diameter of the piece is close to 20" if I remember correctly.
At the moment I'm refurbishing an old bending machine for later use. It's a nice size equipment to fulfill homeowner and car guys needs. There's also a matching sized cutter for sheetmetal.
Other than that, there's just basic hand tools, MIG, power/pressure tools etc. My air compressor is located in the HVAC room, it can make all the noise there. My plan is to make proper lines for the pressurised air and outlets where I need them.
I could go on and on with the details but I'm not going to bore you any longer with them. I just want to say that there is some really nice examples around here in this forum, no matter if we talk garages, tools or ideas how to do things better. Hopefully I can help someone later on when I get my own garage up and running.
Pictures? No, not yet, it's a mess now and too project to show.
