HELLO...
TOMORROW I WILL BE INSTALLING A NEW 9X7 DOOR ON MY JUST BUILT GARAGE. I HAVE A QUESTION.

1) MY FRAMING IS STILL "ROUGH" AROUND THE GARAGE DOOR OPENING. MEANING I STILL HAVE THE 2X4'S SHOWING. I AM ALSO INSTALLING WEATHER STRIPPING AROUND THE 2 SIDE AND THE TOP. SHOULD I FIRST TRIM OUT MY OPENING THEN APPLY WEATHER STRIPPING?

HOPE THIS QUESTION MADE SENSE...
THANKS...TIM:dunno:

Yes. We use pressure treated 2x8s in the 2x6 walls and covered them with pre-painted aluminum (to match garage trim). They were caulked in place and then nailed where the siding would cover that edge and extended back to a point the the garage door weather stripping would cover it and nailed along that line. I did not want to ever have to paint my garage so that I can spend my time working inside it not on the outside. The only paint on the outside is the brick mold and jam around the people door.

Yes, you will want to finish trim the garage door opening first, before installing the wrap around weather stripping. I hope you made the rough opening 1.5" taller, and 3" wider than your door. That's assuming 1.5" thick trim boards.

With that said, you can easily install the complete door without installing the trim boards first. Just leave the trim and weatherstripping for later!!
