Congrats, I just picked up one for my new garage (under construction). Be sure to let us know how you like it. What size garage and how big a unit did you get?

That's good news. It does get hot in NC, I spent 5 1/2 years in Wilson. My garage is 18X24, well insulated (will be) and I got the 14000 Amana also. Sounds like this will work fine here in Indiana. I'll need some heat too though.

I really just want to keep it from freezing and be able to work in there on mild winter days. But I may have to add something to it. I am currently at the limit my financial advisor (wife) has alotted for the build.

You shouldn't have any trouble with maintaining your temp. We have 56 apartments at work that each use one. The units are installed in the living rooms and even in the apartments with seperate bedrooms it will still maintain both areas. I don't remember the exact footages of the apartments but we are only running 12,000 btu units. They work excellent all year long in northwest PA. In the summer you want to keep an eye on the drain. They tend to get gunked up with dust and dirt after awhile and will leak inside, that's even with ours pitched out.
