This will be my first contribution.
My wife and I just bought our first house 3 months ago after living in an apartment together for 3 years. It's a brand new construction here in Arizona in a great location right by some mountains, but a long drive to work for us both. Nonetheless, we settled on a house with a 19x20 2-car garage. First things first, I needed to put some real paint over the crappy contractor-grade, flat, off-white paint they put in everywhere around here. We just finished the first and second stories of the interior, then I shifted to the garage. It's nothing too special, but my first garage upgrade.

I failed to take a true "before" pic, but here is the base coat of white-white I put on over the **** off-white. You can see the old color on the door trim and ceiling.

Now, the OCD level went to the max for this red stripe. I waffled back and forth on the width but was very happy with the end result. The painters' tape that I used to make the sharp edge ended up letting a lot of bleed through which really ruined the sharp edge. It bummed me out for about a day, but I just went back with a finer brush and re-edged it all. My OCD was happy at the result!

And finally... my inspiration/muse for the paint scheme all tucked in...

Nice job it is always a good feeling to personalize your space. Good color match with mustang and garage. Now it is time to fill it up with tools etc.

How many coats of red did it take to get the color you wanted? What kind of paint did you use?

I also tried to do a red stripe in my garage, but it took so many coats I gave up on it.

Looks great! You should seriously consider doing some epoxy or floor tile before you get fully moved in. It's sooooo much easier before you get settled and start accumulating stuff in there.

Good point. I had meant to make mention of this. I knew going in that red was a notoriously difficult color to work with. It took me 5 coats with a roller to finally get a solid red w/o the white undercoat showing through. Very annoying, but I did it all in one afternoon with 30-45 min breaks between coats.
I also used a medium grade Dunn Edwards EXTERIOR paint. We had done the interior first floor with a Behr from Home Depot that I was not satisfied with. So I went with a non-box store brand for the garage and was happier with it. Plus it was cheaper. I also chose an exterior in hopes it would hold up better to long term abuse. We shall see on that note...

I definitely want to, but we're watching our funds closely with all the move-in costs. Plus we have a dirt backyard that was unlandscaped by the builder that we're starting right now. Hopefully I can get to it in the spring.

Thanks for all the kind words!
