Newbie here and glad I found this forum before I build my new garage. We will be building a 28’ W X 36L or 38L with one 18’ X 7’ door on the gable end. I’m limited to the height due to Franklin TN city limit code says I cannot be taller than the house. The home is a rancher with 4/12 pitch roof. Questions for you;

What is the most cost affected way to build Pole barn or traditional framing?

We are looking at using Hardie Plank and shingle roof to match the house.
If I go traditional framing what is your opinion on slab verse block foundation?

What is the minimum roof height to install a two post lift? Height to the wall top plate will be 8’ 9” and I’m looking at using scissor trusses…. Not sure if I will have the height for the lift. If not any advantage to still use scissor truss?

Just some quick ones from me... .don't question the 36 or 38..... just go 38. Also, go to an 8ft tall garage door.

You will need AT LEAST 10ft+ for a lift (Standard two-post Bendpack style). Ideally you will want to have 11ft for a lift. There are ways around that, but for a clean install I would shoot for 11ft. I guess it depends on the lift, so pick that out and use that as a height gauge.

Just doing a rough figure, I get 13'3" as your ridge height, take out at least 6" for the truss and your at 12'9". With a 4/12 pitch, ya loose 4" every foot so, at 11' (height), you would only have about 10'6" total length but at 10' (height) you would have about 16'6" length. Ya gotta know that these are just rough figures because those trusses will get thicker (taller) as ya go to the out side.

Here is a thought, I don't know the lay of your land but if there is any way you could go down say a foot, I would think you would be good to go.

2 post floor plate style is around 10'. 2 post clear floor style is around 12' So you are looking at approximately 10 1/2' or 12 1/2' of needed ceiling clearance.
