About to move into a home with a new garage and stumbled upon this forum, wow there's a lot of information! At first I was thinking of installing vinyl rolls, but now I'm leaning towards acid staining the new (more than 28 days old) concrete. Few questions though, hoping someone can chime in.
I will sometimes do light DIY automotive work in this garage, and am trying to weigh the pros and cons of things like HD6525 low VOC (since I'm in San Diego, California), SEC, Nohr-S, SPGX, etc. I figured I would go for an acid based stain instead of a water-based stain to avoid grinding the concrete for heavier-duty coatings (epoxy or polyurea or polyurea on top of epoxy). Is this a fair assumption, and are there acid stain brands known to etch the concrete better than others?
Another question is the expected longevity of different coating types, and reapplication procedures. It seems that HD6525 is not as tough, but reapplication is as simple as ... reapplying. I guess epoxy and polyurea coatings would require surface preparation again when it comes time to reapply?
Thanks!
