What's the consensus on the best cost efficient construction for a garage (ignoring windows and aesthetics, etc) - I live in the UK, where it's relatively humid during the winter and am looking to build a new garage/unit to house 10-12 cars (which will actually be inside a huge open ended barn/agricultural building - but I'm not sure if that changes anything other than the fact that it won't get rained on/ direct sun). I'm looking to improve security and protection against humidity, dirt, birds... etc. The cheapest material is steel, you can buy big off the shelf steel sheds pretty cheaply, but obviously the temperature fluctuations inside will be huge and attract a lot of moisture. I was thinking of breeze blocking out a corner to use 2 existing walls, insulating and then dehumidifying, but interested in views of people who know more than a laymen such as myself..?

Many thanks

This is my current garage which is out of space and the barn where I want to build the new one - but over the other side from the fire engine (I just don't have a pic of that side). Any thoughts / ideas welcome...

Nice LaFrance! B&M siren, Dietz 211 beacon light, about a 1950 would be my guess. Left hand drive, how did that get over on your side of the pond?

An insulated steel building protected from the sun and nighttime temps should not give you very large temp and humidity swings.

Nice American LaFrance. Their factory in Elmira was about 100 miles south of here. That's a Quint, and a 700 model, right?

Good luck with your design & build!

Thanks. It was already here. Classic car dealer took it in p/x and then couldn't get rid of it. I made him an offer. Fun thing for the kids to play on. It goes but I've only driven it round the yard

Thanks, will cost it up and compare, there are quite a few off the shelf I could just put up in there. That would certainly be the quickest I imagine

Thanks! It's a 700 but that's the limit of my knowledge I'm afraid!

A Quint is a five function fire truck: 1) Aerial Ladder 2) Ground Ladders 3) Pump 4) Water Tank 5) Hose.

I see the pump panel on the right side (typical for the 700 series).

Right next to the pump panel is one of the stabilizer jacks for when the ladder is in use. If you raise the ladder make sure the jacks are set first!

Any idea where Coldwater was?

Any questions let me know, I'll try to answer.

Thanks, not sure the ladder even works, I'm not inclined to move it incase it gets stuck

Google says there is a cold water in Michigan, Kansas and one in Ohio but not sure which it was
