First post!

Due to outgrowing the existing 3-car garage at our house, I've been building a new garage over the last 8 months and it's almost done. The detailed story is here: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?t=442769

In a nutshell, we went from this...

I finished painting the interior last week. The to-do list includes; finish the wiring & lights, trim the windows and floor, install the hot water heater for the radiant heat, and stain the floor. And, of course, cabinets, tool benches, and smoking/drinking lounge. It's been a long tough expensive road, but I think it'll be worth it...I hope it'll be worth it.

Here's some interior shots...

I like the lift. Oil changes are a piece of cake and with an old 911 that needs a valve adjust every 3rd oil change...it's heaven without jack stands. My ******'s in the rear so it shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks Jack.

vartz04, the lift is rated at 6K lbs. It should be able to lift a pick up. They have other models with more capacity. See here - http://www.americanautomotiveequipment.com/

If you do buy one, don't pay the price on the web site. Sign up for their mailing list and they'll send out notices of special prices. My lift is $1695 retail and I paid $995 plus shipping.

We used it yesterday to check a roadside repair of a broken throttle cable that was done blind. Good repair and great lift. It lifts to 57" in about 5 seconds using 110vac. It also comes with pad extensions that add another 10" to the height, but for a 911 it would take about 10 2x6's to raise the car enough to drive over the lift. The green car is lowered and there was about 1/8" clearance over the pads with 2-2x6's. I need to build up some 3-2x6 thick ramps.

Is the lift anchored down? I have a 986 and would love one of those for oil changes. If it is anchored down, what did you use?

No, it's mobile and very easy to move around. Right now, I couldn't be happier with it. I was going to go with a 2-post lift, but a bolted in monument would really limit what I could do in a 24'x36' space.

My wife has an Boxster S and I've been looking forward to getting that up in the air and maybe seeing the engine for the first time...I know it's in there somewhere.

Yep, I'm guessing there is one in there. :)

I've got power & lights! Pulled a late night and a full day today and everything's wired up (except the water heater) and functioning.

I'd post some pics, but my photo sharing site is down.

Update:

Got the trim on the door & windows, the outside is painted, did some more interior painting, and got most of the sheetrock taping/sanding mess off the floor. It's gettin' there...

I've got to make a decision on the floor pretty soon. My available budget is dwindling fast and that, coupled with the new $8K heat pump for the house, requires whatever floor covering I use to be relatively inexpensive. Any ideas?

UPDATE:

Day: 10 months & change

Done...

The final electrical permit buy-off went without a hitch today. The workbench is done, the shelves and most cabinets are in, and I'm working on the car. Project #1 in the new garage is putting on some custom period-correct side stripes and a rear decklid sticker on my '66 911. I'm breaking in the new garage with a puff project...the next project is cutting off and replacing the rusty rear-most 18" of the Land Rover frame.

First, some pictures of the inside.

New side stripes with the backing paper still on because they're still drying...do you have any idea how easy it is to install side stripes with the door bottoms at eye level?

I'll do a conclusions post later, after I've lived with the garage for a while. As of now though...I'm likin' it.

Great looking garage! Being that you have a lift, Those garage doors look like perfect candidates for re-configuring the tracks to get the doors up tight to the ceiling, when open.
