Will Apex ever offer a locking flex ratchet in the Gearwrench lineup like the Armstrong version, or is that being preserved for the more expensive Armstrong line?

The only gearwrench tools I own are some ratcheting wrenches and I like them very much even though I am a die hard made in USA fan. And thank you for answering our questions on here.

Good Job Steve!!! Thanks for sharing. I know this isn't the friendliest place for non US made tools but, please share new Gearwrench products with us when you can. You've been gone far too long from the journal. What new goodies are you bringing to SEMA this year?

An alternate reality in a parallel universe.
Ohhhh noooo! When they sent me a catalog 2 years ago I've since have bought over 180 wrenches, 250+ sockets and 26 ratchets if Gearwrench, I must resist.....

Resistance is futile, I'm going in... Remember when I am living in the garage because the wife won't let me in the house I'm blaming you Gearwrench.

I was hoping that I could get a new "hard copy" catalog, but no joy...

I emailed a catalog request, we shall see...

Good stuff, usually well worth the prices charged...

I could be wrong, but Amazon "seems" to be the best place to purchase...but. then. I haven't seen a Gearwrench truck...yet...

Our company, ATG (Apex Tool Group), makes ratchets mainly in the USA and Asia.

Armstrong brand is USA, GearWrench brand is Asia

Steve

You DON"T WARRANTY your stuff!

You have all the BS stuff about warranty right there for all to read, but when you actually try to get warranty their is none.

I have an independent guy who mostly sells gearwrench hand tools. Amazon beats him unless he has bogo deals

That caught my eye as well. By "tool truck support" are we talking a Gearwrench truck, or via the Matco truck? I guess we'll see.

Well apparently, Matco is the soul tool company still owned by Danaher, everything else is owned by Apex Tool Group now.

No ****, I went through months of continuous *********** trying to get one ******** ratchet replaced because of the useless bastards GW use at Fastenal for warranty issues. Haven't spent 1c on GW tools since.

You are pretty naive.

In my example
-they have a warranty
-he called them direct
-they did NOTHING FOR HIM.
-they claim to have quality distributors
-the distributors don't want to do warranty.
-Armstrong DOES NOT ENFORCE their distribution contracts with the disti.

YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN.

ZRX61 has the same experience with GearWrench stuff.

Oh I was being rude, I'm so happy they have a new website and they are going to have trucks. Now they can sell more stuff that won't be warrantied.

Gearwrench isn't mentioned once in that thread? :headscrat

Not sure what your point is. If its on the shelf at Sears, Advance, Napa etc.. they swap it out no questions asked. So they don't officially warranty products over the phone. Why does that make them a bad brand? Their tools are of very decent quality and priced dirt cheap compared to the trucks. Not worth shunning the whole brand over it.

Do you make your own body hammers and dollies,or are they made by a "known" maker?

Here's the OP from the linked thread:

In the last 2 days I have talked to 2 of the major named tool manufacturers in the USA, with totally different results.

Monday, I called Armstrong Tools, I have a #11-903, 3/8" drive ratchet, that needed a repair kit, so I was directed to customer service. I explained that I had picked up the ratchet used and wanted to BUY, a repair kit. After about 5 minutes of her tapping numbers into a computer (loud enough to be heard through the phone), the answer was NO, the ratchet was discontinued a while back and there are no service parts available and as the non-original owner, I was basically SOL. That is a little disconcerting as I own about a dozen similar Armstrong ratchets.

That Armstrong #11-903 looks just like the current model #11-972.

The rebuild kit #11-990 is for ratchet #11-972 and would probably fit right in that #11-903. The #11-903 was probably a 20 tooth model and the only difference between it and the current model is the number of gear teeth.

I think the "tool truck support" is aimed at the many independent mobile tool distributors out there. I've seen indie tool trucks carry Gearwrench as their primary hand tool brand.

So many tools I didn't know GW sold! The new website was definitely needed!

EDIT: Noticed the tool boxes. Never really heard/seen them before. Wonder what the quality is like...

Look a little closer, friend.

You haven't compared them side by side. Look at more pics online. You'll see significant differences in the cover plate and head shape.

The 11-972 uses a slightly modified version of the Apex 36 tooth mechanism used in the previously USA-made ratchets branded ratchets Craftsman, Allen, K-D, etc. The attached close-up pic is a 11-972.

The 11-903 uses a different mechanism. Note the cover plate is figure 8 shaped. The pawl is supported by a shaft that goes through the pawl and is supported in the cover plate.

The ratchet head is also slightly different. Note the newer 11-972 is squarer and blockier.

I don't think they're the same. The differences are more than tooth count. The handles are cosmetically similar, I'll give you that.

I guess I am lucky to have a Snap On guy that is great. I mentioned to him that I was going to Sears to try and get a 19mm ratcheting wrench warrantied. He asks if its a flex head. I said yes. He says go get it let me see it. I get back on the truck and he hands me a new one. I said dude I didn't buy it from you. He said I don't care your a good customer and its no big deal they will replace it for me. So anyone having issues getting gearwrench warrantied try your tool truck guy if you have one. He may surprise you

We shall see... I have a 1/2" Gearwrench cushion-handle ratchet that failed after minimal use, about a year old.

I just sent Gearwrench Steve a PM requesting instructions for getting a replacement. It was pretty disappointing that it failed so quickly. My other 1/2" ratchet is a Snap-On L710 that was made in 1955. Still going strong, though it probably could use a bit of fresh grease.

It was worth a shot. I had a good chance of looking brilliant and smelling like a rose. :D

Steve/Gearwrench,

All your 120XP ratchets are getting scratched and dinged up at the factory before packaging! You guys aware of this issue? If not, please address it... these 120XP are great and in my opinion the best ratchets on the market right now; it's a real shame they are showing up all scratched and dinged up brand new out of the package. It doesn't affect function at all, but it really kills the "brand new tool" experience...
