What's the COO for the ratchets? I don't follow Gearwrench and don't own any GW products.
Thank you. Are the ratchets made in Taiwan or China?
did you guys notice the "Tool Truck Support" coming soon!? gearwrench is trying to be one of the big boys?
It would be very nice to have this info handy. I would buy GearWrench made in Taiwan, but not made in China. And if I don't know which one it is, I wont buy it at all.It varies by the model of ratchet. For instance, the 120XP line is currently made in our Taiwan factory.
Thanks,
Steve

Wow! The new ratcheting crow's feet look cool!
Our company, ATG (Apex Tool Group), makes ratchets mainly in the USA and Asia.
Armstrong brand is USA, GearWrench brand is Asia
Steve
I could be wrong, but Amazon "seems" to be the best place to purchase...but. then. I haven't seen a Gearwrench truck...yet...
Good Job Steve!!! Thanks for sharing. I know this isn't the friendliest place for non US made tools but, please share new Gearwrench products with us when you can. You've been gone far too long from the journal. What new goodies are you bringing to SEMA this year?![]()
Holy Smokes! GearWrench is getting into the mobil tool business.![]()
That caught my eye as well. By "tool truck support" are we talking a Gearwrench truck, or via the Matco truck? I guess we'll see.
You DON"T WARRANTY your stuff!
You have all the BS stuff about warranty right there for all to read, but when you actually try to get warranty their is none.
Here's proof of what I am saying!!!

No ****, I went through months of continuous *********** trying to get one ******** ratchet replaced because of the useless bastards GW use at Fastenal for warranty issues. Haven't spent 1c on GW tools since.

Both you guys should've just PM'd Steve, he runs GearWrench.![]()

You are pretty naive.
In my example
-they have a warranty
-he called them direct
-they did NOTHING FOR HIM.
-they claim to have quality distributors
-the distributors don't want to do warranty.
-Armstrong DOES NOT ENFORCE their distribution contracts with the disti.
YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN.
ZRX61 has the same experience with GearWrench stuff.
Oh I was being rude, I'm so happy they have a new website and they are going to have trucks. Now they can sell more stuff that won't be warrantied.
In the last 2 days I have talked to 2 of the major named tool manufacturers in the USA, with totally different results.
Monday, I called Armstrong Tools, I have a #11-903, 3/8" drive ratchet, that needed a repair kit, so I was directed to customer service. I explained that I had picked up the ratchet used and wanted to BUY, a repair kit. After about 5 minutes of her tapping numbers into a computer (loud enough to be heard through the phone), the answer was NO, the ratchet was discontinued a while back and there are no service parts available and as the non-original owner, I was basically SOL. That is a little disconcerting as I own about a dozen similar Armstrong ratchets.

That Armstrong #11-903 looks just like the current model #11-972.
The rebuild kit #11-990 is for ratchet #11-972 and would probably fit right in that #11-903. The #11-903 was probably a 20 tooth model and the only difference between it and the current model is the number of gear teeth.

Look a little closer, friend.
You haven't compared them side by side. Look at more pics online. You'll see significant differences in the cover plate and head shape.
The 11-972 uses a slightly modified version of the Apex 36 tooth mechanism used in the previously USA-made ratchets branded ratchets Craftsman, Allen, K-D, etc. The attached close-up pic is a 11-972.
The 11-903 uses a different mechanism. Note the cover plate is figure 8 shaped. The pawl is supported by a shaft that goes through the pawl and is supported in the cover plate.
The ratchet head is also slightly different. Note the newer 11-972 is squarer and blockier.
I don't think they're the same. The differences are more than tooth count. The handles are cosmetically similar, I'll give you that.
