Picked up some bargain 18v power tools a few days ago. Over here (the UK) we have a discount brand supermarket called Lidl, a German company, that every week puts on one-day-only special deals on certain products. Thursday just gone was "Full Power Day" (or something like that) where a variety of power tools, and accessories, are put out on special and when they're gone they're gone. I missed it last time (about a year ago) so when I saw they were doing it again I went down for opening time, and came out with;
(sorry for the poor photo!)
What we've got is a jigsaw, a circular saw, and a drill.
Now "Parkside" isn't a brand name anyone is familiar with when it comes to power tools, but then we aren't talking Makita, DeWalt or Bosch money - no, these were £40 each (about $57USD). They're made in Germany by Kompernaß Handelsgesellschaft mbH (apparently) and spare batteries can be bought directly from their site, as well as the tools themselves. Originally I was skeptical of the unknown name and more so the super cheap price - but a friend bought them when they were on last year and I had a chance to play with them, and the quality seems to be there. The drill especially has a solid weight to it, you can feel it kick with the torque when you "free drill" with it (you know, when you're not drilling anything and are pulling the trigger like it's a hand gun, scaring the cat - no? Just me then!). One of the attractions is they all use the same battery and charger, so really I only need one charger set up and can swap batteries while one charges.
Anyway, got to use the circular saw and drill today, making a shelf from multiple lengths of 3x2, and screwing them together (needed the weight bearing) and they blitzed through it with ease. For the money I'm really pleased with them.
Both the saws have hose ends for the dust, but neither came with a dust bag, so I'll have to find one that fits. The drill is two speed, hefty torque range, hammer function and 13mm chuck (which was something I wanted, as my other last cordless was 10mm)
Sorry for the website pics, but I packed them away without taking pics (cardinal sin, I know)
The drill;
The circular saw;
The jigsaw;
All in all, the outlay for all three is about the same for a single DeWalt drill, and I'm not a heavy user of power tools - my last cordless drill I had for circa 10 years, and it cost me £35 ($50 USD) back then.
So all in all, pretty pleased
