New Gladiator rolling cabinet arrived bent

I needed a new workbench and more storage, so I ordered the Gladiator 6' bench and a couple of the under-bench storage modules from Sears, at no small cost, even though it was all on sale.

When I opened the first one last night, the side was creased and the caster mounts were bent badly, even though the carton was in fine shape.

Is this common? Does Sears take this stuff back *and replace it quickly*, even if the packing materials are torn up?

Thanks!

Mark

Shipping tool boxes (and the Gladiator storage is just a thin metal tool box) is dicey for anyone.
There is a HUGE market in 'scratch and ding' tool boxes. Gladiator boxes are sold dinged by the container load. Really, the container load. Sold cheap too.

I have seen warehouses full of Sears scratch and ding tool boxes, other huge buildings full of every thing else Sears ships.

They save money on the shipping, (which is one reason I see ten times as many scratch and ding Craftsman as anyone else) but will warranty/exchange them easily.
Read the reviews of any box on the Sears website, see how many people had to go through three-six boxes.

Look at the other tool box shippers sites, with all the warnings about boxes being damaged, inspections, etc.

So it is just a fact of ordering a box shipped.

On a personal note, this is why I don't ship boxes. I have NEVER had one arrive without a problem, no matter who I chose. So if I can't put it in the customers truck, I don't sell it.

I bought one of the nice Craftsman cabinets about two years ago. Ya know, the one with the can storage on the doors?

Anyhow...I bought it at the Sears store...got it home and when we opened the box (which was in fine shape) a door fell off the cabinet.

Worse...when I took it back to the store they had no more. Two other stores would not take it back as it would negatively effect their inventory (?). Finally, one store made the exchange.

Does anyone know where we could find/purchase these damaged boxes? I'd take some minor damaged ones if they were discounted accordingly

Look in the tool forum. We have talked about it many, many times.
I have even bought some Cman boxes from Iowa... But here in California there are better deals and many places selling them.
Look on E-bay, find a vendor near you, then go in person. Killer deals.
I have bought many boxes, fixed them up, sold them for up to twice what I paid for them. And the big vendors make a profit selling them to me...
I buy at 15 cents on the dollar, sell at 25% of list. Imagine how cheap the guys selling to me get them for, if they happily sell to me at 15% of Sears sale prices...

Sears runs its own Scratch and Ding places. They are NOT cheap there. The good deals come from the guys who buy the container loads of Sears returns/markdowns/demos etc. then piece them out.
