New grinder

Hello all. I purchased a Dayton grinder a few months ago and posted pics here. With everyone’s help I was able to get her in good working order. Last night I found another good looking grinder. I was lucky enough to purchase it and get her In Working order as well. Here are a few pics. And by the way, my wife isn’t very happy with you guys. I blamed my new found interest on this site. Lol
Not sure what to do with two grinders. May add a polishing wheel to one.

Want to make it really useful? Add a very light guage wire wheel to one side and a flapper wheel to the other. The fine wire will remove rust without leaving marks on the steel. A fine grit wheel will act as a polisher.

There are no grinders of that quality available anymore. Not even Baldor has that kind of super duty construction.

Sure. Because it's actually just a motor- which is somehow now believed to be rocket science to some here. But only for grinders, they're special. But not drills, cordless tools... somehow, even Vietnam can make class-leading cordless tools, but Taiwan can't make a quality grinder. Because..... Something.

I have a newer 11 amp Jet (Taiwan) that replaced a perfectly functional 30+ year old HF (china) because I wanted more amps. But that HF was evidently junk since it wasn't vintage USA. For some reason.

Look at the amount of steel used in the tool rests. You could drop a bomb on that thing and it wouldn't even notice. I'm not saying that modern grinders are junk I'm simply saying tools of that vintage were made to last to the end of time.

Congrats on that, it's a fabulous piece of old iron.

I'll second whoever recommended scotchbrite discs on a secondary grinder. I stack a few of these 1/2" discs and they're a treat to use. Come in a 10-pack.

I don't use grind stones at all anymore (pedestal belt sanders-faster, cleaner, more accurate, nicer finish) but still use wheel machines for wire wheels and deburring wheels. I have a Burr King with a 10" wire and deburring wheel. Have two other smaller Baldor grinders that I dumped the stones and replaced with two sizes of deburring wheels and another with two wire wheels, fine and medium. I've got one more two-wheel Dayton that's waiting for me to do this stacked scotchbrite thing exactly as shown. Whatever you add, trust me you'll use them all the time.

When you get your next grinder (lol)...consider mounting a piece of steel plate to the top of the pedestal, then you can mount two grinders back-to-back on that piece o plate. Saves on floor space. I eventually put my pedestals on mobile bases, as my shop filled up it made it easy to move them here and there as needed.
