Hello All,
Just joined up looking for some advice in getting a garage up and running here in Union County, NC. Moved down here from Cincinnati, OH a year and a half or so ago and have been trying to get the house up to par ever since. I am a gear head at heart and am tired of rolling in the dirt and working out of my trailer (which has housed all my tools since we moved down)!

My wife grew up in the house and we have gone through just about everything from roofs to plumbing trying to get things back up to par. Finally I have the go ahead and room to get a garage up.

I have been looking at packages from 84, steel buildings, and pole barns. Ultimately I want a 30x40 with space for a lift and wood shop. Though we may have to put the wood shop off for now for a later addition project.

So if there are any locals with some insight I would greatly appreciate hearing of your experiences with everything from permitting to why you chose your style of construction for the garage.

Thank you all!

Welcome from Cumberland county NC! If you're planning to use your garage year round in nc I'll suggest insulating very well.

Welcome. I used to live in Monroe but I move to the opposite side of Charlotte 3 years ago. I had my shop built 2.5 years ago by good friend and home builder in union county. It was nice having a car guy build the shop. He built 2 big garages last year in union county if your looking for a builder. Good luck on your build and welcome to nc.

Welcome to GJ, where in Union county are you located?
I'm in Wesley Chapel.
Not much of a car guy any more, still love them, I guess you never
get cars out of your blood.
Mainly into collecting antique radios and vacuum tubes now.

cheers

Welcome shoe6674.... From Ohio! Just go ahead and put up a 60' x 40' now and be done with it. Finish off the wood shop later. And do yourself a favor and go with 12' PLUS for a lift. Good luck Shoe!

Shoe: i can't say i know anybody in your area building a shop or garage that size, but if you go in the garage gallery section i'm betting you'll find hundreds of garage builds that size and some bigger and smaller. one of our members built one about that size earlier this year near me for less than $20,000 and he did the electrical and insulation. i'm betting you can get one built for that much or less.

welcome and ask questions if you have any either here or better yet on the threads you are reading that might have quicker answers.

cheers
