Hi Everybody!! I've lurked here for quite a while and learned a lot thank you all!! I have applied for a variance to build a 30'x32'x12' detached shop in the backyard, it shouldn't be a problem but you never know- the bylaw has a max size of 538sqft which is typical for townships around here. I have a attached 20'x26'x13'(inside dimensions) garage that is stuffed with a classic car, two bikes, automotive tools, mechanical business tools and household storage now. It's not easy to perform a simple oil change as it is now without having to move almost everything out to fit the vehicle in. A close friend just closed up his auto shop business so I lost the use of a lift and figure that it would be much easier to just build my own shop. I plan on doing most of the construction work myself with some help from a couple of contractor friends. If everything goes well it could be closed in and ready for this fall. It certainly won't be like some of the incredible ones on here but I hope to document the process and post it here like so many others have done. Thanks to everybody who has documented their builds, that really helps out when deciding what I like and what I don't need. What an awesome site!! -Pete
