Hello all-
It looks like there have been quite a few introductions from NC lately so here is another one. I moved out here to the triangle last year from Oklahoma for a new job and earlier this year bought a new place here with only one problem... a small two car garage. Coming from my last home with a 40x60 shop I have been feeling a bit cramped so we are now looking to build something suitable at our new house to free up the garage for the cars we actually drive. We are faced with some difficult terrain due to the topography of our wooded 5.25 acres (it sits on what used to be a gold mine in the late 1800s) and our only really flat area is in our septic field and repair area so it will do no doubt be interesting even in picking a location that the builder can work with. I have started to search the board for other NC residents since it seems a lot more difficult to find a builder than it was back in Oklahoma without ending up with what looks like something you would buy at Lowes, just bigger but I have yet to find what I think I am looking for. Any recommendations or feedback on any semi-local builders is welcome.

Hopefully I can contribute a build thread soon

It definitely is, problem is getting someone to hire you when you're out of state!

I was able to land mine while still in Oklahoma so have some faith. You just have to find the place you are the hands down best candidate for. Good luck!

Thanks, just a tad frustrating applying, getting phone interviews and then nothing.

Welcome! Lets see some pics of the land! I wish I were closer, I would come survey your land to help you find a good spot to build!

quite a trip from where you are:lol:

Here is the house (if you watch house hunters on HGTV it may look familiar, it was an option on a recent episode). Newer construction with farmhouse look.

the white lines are approximate setback lines for where I can build. As mentioned, the septic field is the only semi-flat area other than the front yard. The house and detached garage are on a slope and both feature a walkout basement . I would like to build a garage/shop just below the slope the house is on either were I marked it OR potentially with a similar walkout like construction off the dropoff that is marked. Ideally size wise anything equivalent to a 4+ would be great and height for a lift. Clearly I will unfortunately need to lose some trees but I will keep as many as possible for privacy and aesthetics.

Here is a shot down the slope the house and garage is on to where I would like to build

Welcome form Greensboro NC!
You've got plenty of land to work with. Consider putting the shop, "Back in the trees" some. If no one knows it's there, it's more secure.

I plan on it being not visible from the road even where I am showing it there but due to terrain I don't want to go too far back if I can help it.
