I've been lurking here on the boards for ~6 months now. Wife has finally given me the okay to build a new garage. Its not going to be any Garagemahal by any means. Just something to park the mustang in and park the harley in (harley is still in the works, she just doesnt know it yet
).
Going to build a simple 20' wide 28' deep garage with 8' side walls. It will have a 16'x7' insulated door on the front, and a regular 3'0 x 6'8 walk door on the side. Just building it with 36" deep footings around it (code...) with a 4-5inch thick slab. It will have 3 or 4 4'0 x 4'0 sliding glass windows (low-e w/ argon).
Walls will be insulated with r-1323" fiberglass batt insulation and then sheeted with 7/16 waf. The ceiling will be a flat ceiling, r1923 insulation with 7/16" skin. The exterior of the building will be certainteeds mainstreet double 4 oxford blue vinyl siding with white trim.
Im on the fence as far as putting a white metal roof on it, or putting herritage 30 year olde english pewter shingles. My house has shingles, but it needs replaced soon, so i've been weighing out the options of the metal roof.
Along with building the garage, it will also have a 20'wide 10'deep covered porch off the back as well as a 28' x 11' patio off to the north side. The south side has 12' left between my privacy fence and my garage wall. This will eventually become a lean to, or perhaps an attached garage to the garage...for the harley(s)...
I'll be using Steevo's tool bench idea along the west wall for about 8-10 feet, the other 10-12 feet will be full wall shelving for storage.
Ground breaking should start in mid october at this rate. I will be hiring out the concrete (not that i cant do it, just dont have ALOT of time to get it built once i start). I will then do all of the framing and building the garage once the concrete is ready.
I will start a build thread when i get back from Montana with all the pictures i've taken so far of the build site... and keep updating with progress.
Im still torn on whether to stick frame the roof, or just order trusses. I can get the trusses for the building for ~500 bucks... its going to cost me ~300 for the materiel/my labor... That will be decided when i start building.
