Hi All...
New guy from Ohio. I've been lurking getting ideas for my garage make over. It wont be anything like what some of you guys do, just trying to make it more usable and organized so I can get to working on bikes and cars in my spare time.

I'm definitely amazed at some of the garages and ideas I find on this site.

GF: there are a lot of members that have very nice small garages as well as the ones that never seem to end so you'll have a lot of reading to do.

now that you are a member you can ask questions or make comments even if it's telling a member that he or she did a great job so have fun.

may i ask what size your garage is? any before pictures you might want to post and maybe one of us can give you some suggestions?

i started my garage organizing with Costco shelving that was 4 foot wide, 6 foot tall and 17 inches deep and still have some of them on my wife's side of the garage. if you have the room to put these 24 inch deep racks in your garage they are nice because you don't need a bottom shelf and you can put lawnmower, toolbox, compressor and other big stuff underneath them.

also Costco sold these benches with butcher block tops that are the less expensive versions of Gladiator that i put some metal organizers under in case you can find some.

cheers and welcome

Thanks for the Welcome. I'm located around Wilmington Ohio.

The garage is a two car attached. Currently it's pretty full of junk, mowers, gocarts and the like. I have a 12x20 amish building coming to move that stuff out of the main garage. I'll be running solar powered lights in the prebuilt garage and keeping it off grid. The main garage will house all of my tools, saws, etc. I have a little craftsman toolbox that I bought years ago. I've long out grown it, so I purchased two of the Husky 46 inch tool chests from HD last week while they were on sale. I figure they will double as a little work bench when I need it. Still plan on picking up a tall cabinet some point soon.

I currently have a huge shelf unit in there now that will be moving out to the other shed when it comes. The right side of the garage is going to be my motorcycle work area, which is the side the boxes are going on. My wife will be parking on the left side, and I'll work on the cars over there.

I'm thinking about converting my current craftsman toolbox into a welding cart. I haven't taken any measurements yet, just something I've been considering. May scrap that idea once I look at it more.

GF: one of my GJ friends took his little Craftsman rolling old tool box and made a welding cart out of it without ruining the box so you might want to take a look at it for an idea. also he owns a standard size 2 car garage in a nice little development so you can see some of the other things he's done. he found some great metal cabinets and put some huge lumber on top for a bench that is working great for him and doesn't look too bad either.

check out post #6 on Jeremy's thread and you might read up on some of the other projects because he's pretty handy and not spending a fortune outfitting his garage with some cool old tools.

Thanks for the link... Threw me for a loop there for a second.. My name is Jeremy too. lol:beer:

What he's doing with the welding cart is similar to what I had in mind. That way I can store all of the tools, wire, tank, mask, etc in one place.

GF: sounds like a good plan. i'm hoping to be welding some day in the future because at this point if i couldn't bolt it together i have had to borrow friend's skills or pay to have things welded.

cheers and i hope some of the other Jeremy's ideas help. also lots to read so enjoy and ask questions on those threads or like i might have mentioned just a good word so some of us know that others are watching.
