Hi guys i thought it was about time i said hiya .I have been spying in the background for months now and gathering ideas for my own garage .

Thanks to gj i now have an idea what i want and have a meeting to start my planning drawings on thursday .Im 26 and im in the building trade (joiner) with a local council here in the central belt so i hope to do nearly all the build myself and boy does my budget show it lol

Im hoping to go for a 2 storey garage around 24 x26 with 1 large door to the front and 1 small to the side with a nice fixed staircase leading upstairs. it will be a timber build on a block foundation which isnt very common over here people have very small garages and any that are big are usualy done in block with roughcasting.

I will keep this posted on my progress even tho it might be pretty long until i actualy start to build.
regards-- stephen

I will try upload some pics of plans and land

To be honest it wasn't far of it lol think if it had been in a back garden they would have been ok with it.I have seen some big garages in a village nearby and there all way at the back of there gardens. I will just have to fill up the garden with some nice sheds lol

Sorry I've got no pictures of it but mines a 1.6 ls with a 2 litre Sierra engine fitted,it's got 2.8 leather Recaro's and 7 spokes,4 branch and big bore exhaust uprated suspension but it's stuck in the garage at the minute needing a few little jobs.

Your near Glasgow....right? I'm surprised to see a piece of land that large in that area.

I lived in Scotland for a couple of years back in the 70's....Fraserburgh to be exact. My X was Scottish....and I remember when a pint was 45p.

So, what are you paying for petrol now?

Right now is the perfect time to build....your summers are short...but the days long....nothing like coming out of the pub at midnight and it's still light outside...

Aye im only 20 miles from glasgow and a little more from edinburgh. The size of my garden is very rare around here never mind places that are closer to the toon. Some new builds that are going up around here have just enough room to get your bin past .There are a few houses in this scheme with big gardens and there all end of block houses that sit on the corner of another street. Its pretty hard to buy these houses people just dont sell them they often hand them down to growing family members.

You lived in a nice part of the country but i bet you had trouble with the accent in fraserburgh lol A pint right now is prob on average about 3 quid, 45 p wouldnt buy you a can of juice nevermind a pint pmsl Petrol is around £1.35 odd right now but you have your bandits who are even higher than that .

You described our summers perfect ,they dont last long at all some years but right now were doing ok weve had a good couple of weeks of sun .And yes many a time have i wandered out the pub and it aint dark yet :spit:

Yeah those silly little jobs always seem to take ages. I've got to change the rear anti roll bar bushes in mine and typically the half the bolts have snapped, wouldn't be so bad but my garage is a council lock up half a mile from my house with no power. My mate's got a 3 litre mk1 he's realised he's never gonna get it done so he's bit the bullet and paying someone to do it for him.

I was in the exact same position it was getting crazy laying on the floor under a car in a space thats ten foot wide lol Your body can only take so many scottish winters on a concrete floor haha

Your mate probably done the right thing i have realised that putting in some overtime and paying a garage to do it until i get my own built is much more easy haha The capri got its mot today but had a few advisories so i just ordered the stuff and told the guy to do them .It will take me ages to get round to it lol One of the advisories was rear anti roll bar bushes so i order poly ones from floflex.I have been told these are a great investment.Theres some on ebay right now on sale for around 15 quid .

I'm not surprised your council didn't like your two storey plan Stephen. I had a 2 storey plan a few years ago which my council (in Surrey) put a stop to. Down south, we only have a maximum of 30m sq space as well, but you look like you aren't limited by that?

Were allowed to build upto 30 m sq without planning, they just require a building warrant and there are obv strict height regs etc that come along with that.To be honest i knoow many people who have built their garages like this and have added a little bit here and there and the council are none the wiser.Personaly i prefer it all to be legal just incase it bites me on the **** .

My garage is just shy of 60 m square and they dont seem to have a problem with this but im sure its because i have a big garden .I have been told your garage size cant be over a certain percentage of you total garden area so maybe this is why mines can be larger .The guy at the council actualy told me if my garage had been at the back of my house and no neighbours rejected my plans they probably would have allowed a two storey building around 5.5 metre.Wish i had a big back garden lol

Planning have finaly approved my garage so all i have to do now is wait 21 days to allow neighbours to object if they have any issues. If not i should be free to buils soon .Better check the piggy bank and see if need to save more lol
