Hello,
I found the Garage Journal Board while researching vises. I'm not a master machinist or formally trained mechanic but I am a mechanically inclined guy with an interest in blacksmithing. I work on firearms a little here and there and will be performing armorer service on rifles for the PD where I work. I am also interested in learning how to make my own knives.
My tool kit is slowly but steadily growing. Years ago, I made the mistake of buying a cheap Chinese-made vise. The bondo-like substance is coming off and the vise is starting reveal itself for what it is. I'm in the market for a used American-made vise with jaws at least 4" wide that I can use for working on firearms, knives, small engine parts, etc.
There's obviously a lot of knowledgeable people on these forums. Glad to be here and I hope to learn from you.
