This is my first post here. I came to this forum to find information to help me make a decision about replacing my tore-up cheap Chinese lift. I have spent the last couple of nights here going through searches and reading posts on lifts. I decided that I might as well join you folks since we all seem to share some common interests. I have to admit that I just love toys. I'm 67 years old and I never grew up. I'm enthralled with machinery, all kinds, the bigger and noisier the better. From what I have read in the last two nights it appears that I would fit in here.

Anyway, my problem is that about five years ago I bought a cheap 2 post lift from a lowlife sleezeball that had a company called Americas Pride. The lift that he shipped to me was not the lift that he demonstrated on his 0n-line video. In fact it appeared to be the other lift that he had in the video that he used to show how superior his lift was. I was unable to get any satisfaction from them, even after going through the Better Business Bureau, and ended up stuck with that sorry piece of junk. I needed the lift to do some major work on my 62 Corvette and it did what I needed done at the time. After I finished putting the Corvette back together I started using the lift for normal service work on my pickup and some friend's vehicles. I think the lift would still be working fine if I had just used it for the vette and other light vehicles but I have 2500HD diesel crew cab and my friend has three of them. The lift was supposed to be rated for 9000 lbs. The vette weighs 3200. The diesels are all in the 7500 range. The lift could not take the strain and eventually one of the hard rubber wheels on one of the carriages self-destructed.

All is not lost. I have a friend who is a welder. He wants the lift, says he can fix it. I have no interest in fooling with that piece of Chinese garbage anymore so we came to an agreement. I traded him the broken lift for a really cool older Hypertherm plasma cutter that works. Now all I have to do is decide what to replace the lift with. Aren't friends great?

I really would like to get a Bend Pak but money is a consideration so I am leaning more towards the Dannmar. I see that both those lifts are certified. I'm thinking that a wide asymmetric is what I want but then I keep seeing posts where people are saying that asymmetrics are not for heavier vehicles. I guess I probably need to call some dealers and see what they recommend.

Thanks for listening. I'm sure that I am going to enjoy y'alls company.

Happy motoring;)

Some two post lifts will lift both ways, asymmetric and symmetric. But the symmetric lifts are better for lifting trucks. I have a Challenger lift that's called a Versymmetric, is lifts both ways. I don't believe BendPak has one that lifts both asymmetric and symmetric. If I was to buy just one or the other, I'd go with the symmetric. Oh...also don't be surprised, but a lot of the lifts are Chinese made.

The Bend Pak says that the arms will work either way but I haven't seen anything from Dannmar saying that.
