Hey guys, I have been lurking around for a while and thought I would introduce myself. I live in central Iowa. I’m a woodworker and am getting ready to build a new shop (with parking for the wife) the first week in June. Well, I am going to start it the first week of June anyway. I plan to document the build process, and maybe do a few videos for guys looking to do a similar project.

Woody: welcome to the forum. videos sound great and best of luck with the build. if you'd like to post up a few pictures of your building site, plans or just a few pictures of your favorite things you want to put in your new shop you certainly can here on this thread for a little practice and it helps us get to know you.

cheers and enjoy the ride hopefully getting the shop/garage built as you are hoping it will.

Ok, I applied for my building permit yesterday. The new garage is going to be 22x32. I have been playing around with the Grizzly shop planner for months.

This is what I cam up with. The wall on the right is actually a partition wall between the wood shop and what will be my wife's parking stall. I think I worked it all in plenty of room to walk. Only a couple of tools will have to be moved for use. I think add some wall cabinets and it will work out great.

This will not be too much more square feet than my current basement shop, but my basement is cut up weird and has always been a struggle. Hopefully next year we can turn that into living space.

Let me know what you think!

Woody: so are you putting in a roll up garage door and 2 man doors? why 2 man doors? not sure if this would work, but i'd eliminate the 2 man doors you have and put a man door maybe at the back of the shop so that way you'd maybe have a better chance of leaving the building in case of a fire if the fire was up front.

are you doing stick built on a foundation, metal frame or pole building?

have any pictures to post of buildings you'd like yours to look like? or have you found any threads of some that you like and maybe post up a few links here so maybe we can give you a few pros and cons (if there are cons).

also now that you are a member if you find a thread that you like and maybe want to ask the owner if there are any CONS or anything they'd do different maybe that might give you some insight to making yours even better.

good luck

Ok, the right hand wall is just a partition. That door is there as a way for my wife to get to the entry door from her parking area. There will be another 9' overhead door on that side. This will be stick built. I am hiring out the concrete, but I will do everything else myself. Due to restrictions with the city, this is about the only way I can do it. Thanks for your thoughts!
