Stumbled across the forum as I was researching floor sealants. Moving into a new house just a few miles up the road from where we've been living for the last dozen, and not only does it have a nice three stall attached garage, but there is an additional 1-1/2 stall detached! We currently have a three stall that is fairly well organized, and has three vehicles and a motorcycle within. I think I may continue that in the new place, and turn the 1-1/2 stall into a man cave.

Anyway, here is a pic of the new place, or at least the garage portion!

JM: looks like a very nice design. i can't say i've seen that plan built or even on paper. did you design it yourself? congrats on your new place and good luck with the move.

if you need any help using our forum just ask or read the threads you like and ask questions or share your wisdom there. or maybe just post a WELL DONE if you liked what you read because some of us that post quite a bit would like to know what the guys and gals think that are reading our posts.

also Merry Christmas.

cheers

Thanks, folks. These forums are great; collective knowledge is usually better than going it alone, and I'll see of I can contribute myself.

drivesitfar - It's a Highland model, 291F to be exact, with the usual 3 car tandem turned into a side entrance, and the oversized single added on to boot. It's on an acre, so has a bit of room for the footprint. Because it was designed to be a tandem, but not built like that, it also has a very large open area, to the side of the three car area, as you walk into the house. Not sure what we'll do with that space, but it's there.

JM: can you post a floor plan or do you have a link to the builder's floor plans i can look at? how many square feet of living space? i know if i gave my wife the single garage that you are talking about making a man cave i could then maybe have all 3 for my stuff.

i've been thinking of just building a detached shop and we'd use the 2 or 3 car attached garages for our cars and house stuff, but i do like your idea now too.

cheers and ask questions if you have any and I (we) will usually help you if we can.

Here is a link to the Highland floorplan. It's not in our neighborhood, but they have the same floor plan in all of their 'hoods. This plan is flipped from ours, (Master BR is on the right side for us), and the garage is a side entry, not three car tandem, but otherwise the same. Notice what I said about the large open area in the garage, caused by the side entry; it's just to the left of Bedroom 3 in this plan. If you could drift a Mini Cooper well enough, this actually could be a 4 stall garage!

The additional oversized single would sit, in this plan, just to the right of Bedroom 3; on our house, it's to the left. The house itself is 3440 square feet, 4BR, 4.5BR, single story. So a downsize from our house now, but an upsize in garage stalls. Here are a couple of pics from the other day; front and back.

JM: while i'm still trying to flip and figure out your floor plan i want to thank you for the link and the pictures. feel free to post more pictures as you have time. so that's a rambler or one story? do you have maybe 1000 feet or more of attic space storage?

we've raised 5 kids in a 2000 square foot 3 bedroom 1.5 bath (had only one bath originally and i added a half bath when 2 daughters and wife were taking up the main bath). now that the kids are almost all gone it's almost a good size, but i know your floor plan would be something my wife would like to have. maybe with one or two less bedrooms so the kids don't get ideas on moving back home. believe it or not my home would sell for more than you are buying yours for and i only have 1/3 acre and a 2 car small attached garage.

if i could talk my wife into moving out of Seattle we'd sure be able to buy a lot more house because that house you are having built would be close to $1 million in most of the areas we like if we could find a lot.

good luck with your new home and i hope you've got all the tile, cabinets and other items chosen because all that comes up quickly now that your exterior looks almost complete.

Merry Christmas
