I've been a sporadic contributor/long time lurker on GJ and I have been inspired and awed by the garages on here. We recently sold our house in West Plano and are in a rental house in Allen while our new Craftsman/Hill Coutry style house is being built. My wife got her list of features met and in exchange I got my garage space. I will post pictures when I figure out Photobucket but there isn't much to see yet apart from forms for the slab with the plumbing pipes sticking up. This is our dream house, and I plan on being dragged forcefully from it in 40 years or so to whatever old folks home my daughter (now 5, going on 15) sticks me in.

The planned garage space consists of three two car bays, a shop area, a storage room (I call it the Texas Basement) and a ~500 sq ft unfinished loft area (with stairs and stubbed for a future bathroom). Two of the garages are integral to the house, the third will be connected by a Porte cohere. One of the integral two car units will be vaulted to the roofline and have a dormer for natural light. I have plenty of outlets on the walls and ceilings (including 220v in two of the garages--one in case we buy an electric car in the future and one in the vaulted space for a lift, again in the future). I have the raw space I need for my "home for wayward cars" but I will be looking for a lot of guidance on things like lighting, flooring and cabinets. As I am a bit of a smart ***, I am likely to be spending a lot of time in the garage--there is a thin line between sarcasm and celibacy, and after ten years of marriage I ought to know where that line is, but don't. :D

BTW--if you want to make it rain in Texas, start building forms for a slab and the skies open up! Ask me how I know...

Thanks guys, I hope that I can give back for the information that I have learned already from the GJ crew.

HOTFR8--I've spent quite a bit of time in WA for my mining clients and I am a huge Underbelly fan.
