Hey all.
New member here. Found you via the Viper forum I'm in. I live just NE of Orlando and am building a new garage. Building a wood (hurricane code) 24x42 wide with 12' walls. 2 garage doors, in 1 a high lift that will house a 4 post 9k Challenger lift beside a 2 post 11k Challenger lift. Doors are speced to 8x18. 2 windows on the West wall and 1 with an entry door on the East wall.
Plans will be to finish it in drywall with AC. Planning a bunch of electrical outlets, both walls and ceiling. Settled on Racedeck for flooring. My researching shows this should be the best for durability and longevity. Planned on professional Epoxy job, but afraid of hot tires and floor jack marring.
Planning on using lots of LED lighting. As for storage and benches, I am leaning toward the full sets that Costco carries... The ones around $2000. Not 100% sure yet.
Lead time for this builder is 3-4 months right now, but the deposit has been for a bit. Hoping to be complete by Oct or so.
If anyone has any good insite for me please share. I have and will comtinue to research this great forum.

Welcome.

You didn't mention what types of work you will be doing. You did mention a 2 post and a 4 post. Are they for storage or for working on vehicles? If for working, What type of vehicles? For me with several trucks, 24' depth would not leave me enough room for a bench/toolbox and room to walk around. What is the overall length of your 4 post?

Be sure to add plenty of outlets including multiple 220v for welders, compressor, etc. Also put a couple spare conduit under the slab for future unknown needs. Do you plan on having water, bathroom, etc. Plan for future and put in drains and plumbing now.

If you haven't already set aside a bunch of time, a few cold ones and check out the garage gallery threads. Hang on to your wallet.

Check out the flooring one as well. There are some flooring product companies that are members and will help you out on your flooring decisions.

Four post to store my '67 Mustang and my '16 Viper. 2 post will be to to pudz around on stuff. Largest thing on it would be my F150 for oil changes and such. Other bays for tools, benches, and bikes...as well as the rest of mancave stuff.
This is the max size that I can get away with on this property, where I need it anyway.
No floor drains or bathroom. My septic is on the other side of the house, and the added cost would get rediculous.
Yep, planning on a lot of 110v and a couple 220s.
I cant recall the lift specs, but both are the oversized models (L&W).
And, hes, I have been surfing tons of pics for reference. There sure are some bad *** garages out there!

With 12' walls and 42'W you might want to think about a small 2nd. story office or storage on the gable end opposite your 4 post.

If you can live with the idea of a post near the middle of your 42 foot length, I would recommend researching a "roof beam" construction.
(Go with a steel beam. It will give you the option of installing a chain hoist for foreseen projects.)

This will give you a vaulted ceiling/interior that will eliminate any height concerns.
You may even be able to go with 10 foot walls.

(I went with 8 foot stick built on a 2 foot masonry base.
With a 4/12 roof and a 24 foot depth, I have a 14 foot interior center height.)

Realy didnt want any posts. Was considering a hanger style like you mentiomed, but decided against it.
As for storage above, it will have plenty for my puposes. I originally was going for a gramble style with a loft above. Then realized that I am in FL and didnt want to cool a very hot attic loft!
