New guy in PA

Hello All,

Just had a 30x40 garage built in the Poconos of PA and thought I would share the almost completed building. Just needs Doors, some minor grading in and around the building and a floor.

Don't think I can do much more until the spring, but it gives me plenty of time to plan out next steps.

I've been browsing here and there's a ton of great information.

KZ: nice looking building. are you planning on removing the support 2 by's when you pour your cement floor this spring? i'm not exactly sure how you'd do that and they just looked out of place a bit.

if you might like vintage cabinets and tools better than the new stuff take a look at the vintage tools section and this thread i started about metal cabinets might help get you started in your search to fill up your shop.

i've seen shops fill up quickly and not exactly or even close to a plan the owner's liked so MAKE A PLAN. are you planning a lift? position that first. electrical? probably put in an extra 220 for compress and or potential or other machines. lots of 220 plugs and lights. insulation?

the list goes on and not any of it is cheap, but usually harder to do once your shop fills up so just saying.

Thanks for the link and the advise drivesitfar. Not sure what 2 by's your referring to. There's some left over brace boards the Builder left and just place along the wall. The perimeter of the building has a 2x6 skirt board that the Concrete will come up to after I pack some stone in there.

KZ: it looks like your building is sitting on 2x6's or is there a footing underneath them?

Oh, I get what your asking about. It's a Pole Building, so the big posts inside the building are actually buried in the ground 42" (8 inch concrete footing and 36" in the ground). The 2x6 skirt boards is what you see, but are covered over slightly by the siding. They will be covered over to the door level once I finish the inside with Stone and Concrete.
As they were building it, I video'd the entire process and as soon as figure out if I can upload a 1.5 GB file, I'll share with everyone here. I was quite impressed during the build. Took them 3 days. Garage doors are handled by another company.

KZ: some of the guys make a Youtube video of their builds or projects and then provide a link. otherwise I've never done a video and downloaded one on here so if you find another method and you don't see me commenting on it please PM (private message is like email between just members of GJ) me to let me know if you have time.

good luck and one thing i like using are commercial racking like they store their product on at Costco and Home Depot so i can put cabinets and machines and even park my trailer under them with storage above.

Welcome from another Eastern PA guy. Nice shop, who built it? I want to build my own, not sure if I will hire out or do myself. Rafters are the biggest concern for me since I want 16' high walls.
