Wow...stumbled onto this site from the Jalopy Journal...I am glad to see that others are as consumed by this as me...my shop is a 31 x 91 x 16 metal building with two automated rollup doors, 3 ridge vents, and 6 skylights (wish I had put more in there. I built an office to look like a gas station/roadside business with 4 parapet hiding the storage loft and a tool room and adjacent bathroom with give the interior addition an L-shape...above the bathroom is an approximately 8 x 10 display area where I have my rat fink beach cruiser and my mooneyes beach cruisers on display...I also have a 20 inch overhand around the perimeter of this structure where I display 5 gallon cans, old coolers, etc.
The main purpose for the shop was to house the silkscreening production for my business and for storage (at least that is what I told my wife)...it has morphed into the hangout and testosterone zone for my and my car buddies...in addition to all of my woodworking tools and business equipment it houses my finished and current projects...63 riviera Kustom (just need to get the bags on it and get her pinstriped and she'll be done, my 33 ford pickup project...still accumulating parts but getting close and my 54 plymouth 2 door wagon turned sedan delivery (getting ready for paint soon).
I built 40 linear feet of cabinets (all on wheels) with formica counter tops to fill in the gaps and to use for organizing parts for the various cars and projects and to stash my die cast collection until my twin 7 year old boys realize that they are, in fact, not toys.
I rescued our old 50 inch hitachi tv which my son had thrown one of his toys into the screen and had it fixed and now I watch my favorite shows, videos, etc on it...additional outfitting includes an electric pizza oven, microwave and full sized fridge for all the necessities.
The coolest part about this shop is I get to work at home and the kids come down and hang with dad and in my spare time I can wrench on one of my projects or hang out with my buddies (though I am getting tired of cooking pizza for those cheap bastards).
The bummer is we are going to be moving to North Carolina in the spring and we will be selling this place and some other guy will come in and mark his territory...sob.
