Howdy folks. Gary here from TX signing in.
I am a born and raised car guy from Texas. My father was a hot rodder and drag racer in the TX panhandle in the 50's and 60's, so I grew up in the garage and at the drag strip (Amarillo Dragway mostly) learning to work on cars and try to make them go fast.
I learned everything I know about cars from my dad. I lost my dad in 2008, but he was fortunate enough to be able to finally have his "dream shop" for the last 10 years of his life in Durango, CO. It was truly fabulous and I really wish I could airlift it somehow to my place here in TX. Instead, my mom decided to sell the place and I was left with the task of moving out of that shop last summer. I have all of dad's tools and equipment from that shop now in storage, waiting the day when my time and money intersect such that I can build my own dream shop here.
I will post more later about the tools I inherited from my father - but the centerpiece was certainly his fully stocked Snap-On toolbox - he was always a Snap-On fan. It will have to remain in storage until I can get my shop built (it is the large 6' wide cabinet).
I don't have detailed plans for my shop yet, but the rough wish list is a '30x50 building with 2 tall doors in front and one in back, tall enough for an upstairs office and storage. A hydraulic car lift and a rolling i-beam hoist (dad always had one of those and I am determined to continue that family tradition!).
I look forward to participating and learning here on the forum.
