Hello all, im in nyc now but moving to pa by the end of next month. The house im buying had a garage that was converted to a workshop. The door was taken out and cemented(or cinder block) to a single door. Does anyone know if its easy to switch back and if i need permits? This is my first house but not my first time with construction, any help would be great

Can't speak for PA but the NY State Uniform Code requires permitting any change to a building that is structural in nature. That which you describe would require a permit in NYS and quite likely in PA.

Permits will be somewhat up to the township. The Penn UCC code will most likely apply. I would think that you will need permits.
A quick call to your twp permits or zoning person will be able to answer that.

I can't speak to the permit issue, but it's possible that the header from the old doorway was left in place and merely filled in below it, with the smaller doorway built in.

Looks like that's exactly what he did. I doubt he tore out the header, it was a stable first then garage then workshop

Is the garage attached to the house?
Yea, it's a split basement with 1 half the garage (or used to be) and the other half has the boiler & laundry. I may leave it as is and build a covered carport butted up to the house this way I have covered parking and a nice little workshop for home projects, gunsmithing, etc

In Carbondale, likely wasn't a permit pulled on construction of the residence. JK. No permit required to revert the door opening. Like was already said, confirm that the original header or lentil is still sound.
