Well Ive done some searching but cant come up with any good answers, Im not rolling in the money as one would say so I need to know what I can build. I would like a 35x40 shop with 10 foot walls. The walls will need to be 2x6 because it gets extremely cold here in the winter. What would be a good rough estimate of cost to build this shop? Sorry if this is asked frequently but I figured you guys here would know best.

Joe I am going to give you my standard first answer to a guy in your shoes :D.

1. Welcome to The Garage Journal .

2. Go to the user CP in the upper left corner of the page and add your location to your profile . You dont have to include your street address but a state or province would help us answer your questions :D.

This is pretty much like asking what is the cost of a house. Going to need alot more information than 35'x40'x10'. Can you go with a monolithic slab? Do you need a footer? a foundation? Block? Concrete? Floor? Not being a smart a-- here just this is hard to answer. And, oh ya, "Welcome to Garage Journal".

Best bet call the builders that are local to you to come bid it the way you want.
Asking prices to build on the net is like asking somebody to do openheart surgery on the phone... just not gonna get the job done right. the building i work out of was about $60,000 80x54 polebarn 8inch thick slab

A teacher i had in school answered this question for me 20 years or so ago. Take what you think your shop will cost you and at least double it. for the things you decide it MUST have. Like tools shelfs workbench and the list goes on.

Or go to your local home improvement store and talk with them. They will usually be able to draw up something or have a do it yourself computer to draw it and give an estimate. Then figure out what you need for a foundation and call around to get ideas. Then from those two you should have a good start. Then the hardest part is figuring how 4 many money trees you have to plant to give the yield you need for it.
