Just found this website. Had some fun lookin around, figured I would post up what I have been building for the past six months. Took me over a year to get the permits and working on the weekends has slowed things down a bit, but as of today it is waterproof.

Got some updates finally. I have been doing this pretty much just on weekends and evenings and seem to have forgotten what it is like to have a life. I just finished mudding and texturing four of the walls, the end is in site.

Get rid of those hedges and that tree on the front and the house will really stand out. What do you figure the value of the house with the addition. I would say you are looking at 8 or 9 hundred thousand or more. Anyway great looking addition.

thanks for the compliments. In regards to the driveway, I installed a drainage system from the back patio and all the gutters drop into it and go under the pavers. I had to pull them all up and dig the trench for the line and put them all back down. Took about three weeks straight work.

The hedges are going to remain until I get an idea of how the driveway is going to work. I have cut them about 1/2 the height of where they were.

In regards to value, I don't want to speculate in this market, but it should be well north of 8 or 9, that is what I paid over 2 years ago well before the addition. 11

okay, got some more progress done. Walls done inside and cabinets up. Got these cabinets free from a kitchen remodel. Couldn't have worked out better.

Garage is nice, I always liked that style of house. Don't see it too often around my parts. Cabinets look good, and for free, who's to argue?

Very good work with such limited space. I would highly recommend using a quality floor coating (epoxy) Grios / etc for the floor however.

You garage looks great. Those kitchen cabinets are nicer than my actual kitchen cabinet. LOL

I feel for you on taking a year to get a permit. It took me four (4) years to get a permit to build my garage. Very long story, but I have been framing for about 5 weeks, plan on putting the roof trusses on this weekend. My build is slow also, as my wife is usually my only helper and I work a full time job, so I can only work 20 to 25 hours a week on the garage building.

thanks for the feedback everyone. I still can't get over the cabinets. It was just perfect timing. I am really getting excited about it now as things just seem to be coming together. I am actually starting to use it as a garage! The space is coming together and my buddy and I are constantly brainstorming how we are going to best use the space. A perfect example is the compressor reel. It was initally going to go over the toolbox and be plumbed up into the ceiling. When we got the cabinets up there, it made more sense to have them as more storage is always good. Moving the compressor to center of ceiling made it easier to access the compressor (which will be directly above in the attic) and took the eye away from the ugly garage door rails. It is what I should have done in the first place.

I will be doing the epoxy, most likely the rustoleum pro but that is down the road.

Awesome looking garage. It's all in the details. When it's done, it'll look like the garage was always there, which is exactly what you want people to say. What are your other plans for the space?

thanks for all the positive feedback. I have seen some awesome garages on this site, and they have encouraged me to go the extra mile. Here are some progress pictures. I have finished the laundry and moved the washer and dryer in, hung my bike posters, placed all my helmets and installed the compressor.

I think the details are what counts. One thing I am particular about is running as many cables, wires, lines etc through the wall or ceiling. I think it cleans up appearances, makes things look professional and really finishes a job. In my house I ran all the wires for my surround sound through the walls and it made a huge difference in appearance. The compressor is mounted directly above the reel, so the hose disappears into the ceiling nice and cleanly.

One little widget I think is totally cool is the parking laser. It is hard wired into the door opener and so when you enter the garage it fires a red laser. Simply line your car up on a predetermined spot and you have perfect parking. My wife can park her wagon within a 1/2 inch of the closed door every time. Pretty trick. Anyway here are the updates.

Still need to get all my tools out of storage, and I know this doesn't look much like a working garage yet, but give it time!

it was like pulling teeth. 14 months of permit negotiations, half of which was just figuring out what they wanted to see. There is so much confusion in the county as I am sure you know.

I've seen some of these photos on VWVortex. Looks great! Nice charged MkIV. I drive a 2.0L Golf with the plans of running the Neuspeed charger as well (someday).

In regards to the outside, it isn't finished yet, the stucco goes on this week, well at least the scratch coat and brown. I decided not to do this as I just don't have the time or skill

The "longboard" picture is acutally a gravity board, or downhill skateboard. Super fun and carvy, really flexes into turns, but can hamburger you pretty damn quick.

The parking laser is from liftmaster. Here is a link. Don't let the image confuse you it is pretty small, I thought it was a lot larger until I saw one. I am sure liftmaster will say it is only for a liftmaster opener, but the wiring I did I mine was to just connect it to the opener sensors that I am pretty sure most lifts have now.

I got it from a local garage door installer. I knew they installed Liftmaster and went down there. The guy says "we just got a ton in for a promo, try it and let me know what you think". He gave me two, and I LOVE them. I was trying to come up with all kinds of crazy ideas for the parking as I hate the tennis ball thing and this is so cool.

That is my old school BMX helmet. Yea I did ride in the 70's but only crusing around. I was born in 76!
