Hello all,

I finally posted here today in a thread, so I figured I should do the intro. I have lurked here for about 4 months and have to say two things:

1. I love this place for the great info, inspiration, friendly knowledgeable people and also the international participation and esprit de corp.
2. I hate this place for the time-sucking vortex it has created as I try to catch up on all the fantastic garages/buildings/projects of all types presented here.

I am in the process of moving to Michigan from Illinois, and recently purchased a new house with a 30x36 separate garage building in addition to the smallish two car attached to the house. I am moving from a 30x40 4-car (shared with everything), so not a lot more space but some. The new building is split into three rooms, so the actual garage area could be larger. One area will become the tool/dirty area, and the other small one an office/clean area.

Hope to add a two-post lift, but will need to decide on type (ceiling is 10' 6" but can probably be raised in the area needed).

I will be near Howell when I am relocated. I still have three cars and a garage full of parts to move, not counting the household goods. I have lived in Michigan, Wisconsin and Illinois, now heading back to Michigan for about ten years or so likely (retirement HOPEFULLY on the horizon at that point).

Now I have to get a chance to go see the garage in Philo before I get moved completely (about 45 minutes away from me now).

Thanks all.

Time for an update.

Finally got everything moved last August, cleaning out the last of my storage unit in September. Spent the fall getting the house situated (converted to natural gas and new water heater) and putting in shelving in the house garage. Fit the wife's daily driver in there along with one car project, and made that all happen before the major snow fell. Unfortunately, moving pressures caused me to dump and run on the project garage, with three cars and a hoard of parts and also woodworking tools being dumped in there willy-nilly. So I have a big mess to clean up.

I have been collecting things for the garage since then, sheets of plywood, 4 gladiator cabinets, a new 40" roller cabinet and top box toolbox combo, so looking forward to the last snow disappearing so I can get into working out in the project garage. I will start a separate garage thread when I do.

I want to add the nice liftmaster side door openers to at least one door of the two on the building. And a lift is hopefully in the budget soon (selling the wife on the health advantages of not lying under cars anymore at my age...).

I will get pics eventually. Can't find them right now and having problems with my camera phone.

Thanks to everyone on this side for great inspiration and countless ideas and variations on doing a workspace.

I have tried during the summer and fall to stay off the Garage Journal and actually work on my garage. I will get some pictures up (likely in a new thread for the shop) of progress and setbacks (such as buying a Craftsman block grinder, drill press and band saw) :eyecrazy:

I am very close to functionality in the building, with the need for airlines and some more electrical to be added yet. No heat yet, but I think three of us in the neighborhood are going to do trenching together next year, two for gas lines, and one guy for electrical to his building. Hoping for a mild winter so I can keep working in there.

Yeah, pretty much right between Lansing and Detroit. I work in a Detroit suburb, so have a 30 mile commute.

Also right between Lansing and Ann Arbor, which leads to color confusion in the college football realm. Go Blue, Go Green, Go White? Actually grew up in WI, so I skew red and white. :dunno:

Welcome back to Michigan and to GJ! I am a bit north of you in Byron. I work at the GM Milford proving grounds with a another guy from Howell. Know the area well.
