hey guys. I'm new here.

Well we just bought our first home. As a big car nut that I am I want my Garage to be my workspace on the cars.

UNFORTUNATELY It's a starter home and the garage is small. About 10ft x 20ft.

Ok what have you guys done with respect to garage storage?

Goal is to keep all car related stuff in the garage, and dedicate the in house storage for everything else non related to cars.

I need to make as much room as I can so I can work on my cars. So I don't want stored suff taking up space.

I don't want to walk throught the house to pick something up from the basement storage when I'm working on the cars at the risk of hearing my cleanfreak wife snap on me.

Now this isn't for tools. it's more for things that need to be used 1-2 times a year. Rim storage for example.

Any ideas for a small garage? I'm thinking something overhead. Like a loft or mezzanini above the garage door.

What have you guys tried?

Thanks so much for your help.

How tall is your ceiling? Definitely make the most of overhead storage. I like an overhead 2' deep shelf (cut a 4'x8' sheet lengthwise) along the perimeter of a garage for out of the way storage. Especially utilize a shelf over the garage door at the wall to store things not used much but are needed. Keep tools used most on rolling chests and cabinets.

I think I have about 3-4 ft in clearance above the door rails to the ceiling.

We get the keys to the place in a month. So I can't confirm exactly how tall it is now.

Thanks for the response.

I was thinking of something like this.

Anyone done something similar?

But I'd put deeper joists 2x6 along the long way and not have any 2x4's on the open side.
