I'm looking for something to heat my garage up. The garage is about 18x18 and is a smaller 2 car garage. I guess I should get it out now that this is my parents garage and I'm 19 so I don't want to spend a ton of money on a heater when I'm unsure of how much longer I will be living here. Also looking for something that I can run for long periods of time. Is it a far cry to want to stay under $150 to heat my garage up pretty decently?

Here is a pic from the door showing that the garage isn't that big

This one was taken right next to the garage door and showing the small size from another angle.

Do any of you have any suggestions?

Also just to add, all of the junk in the garage is getting trashed and I am going to find somewhere to store my seadoo. I'm just trying to get a nice, clean and warm place to work on my truck

this is a tuff one.only $150 to work with . ok depending on where you live, how cold does it get . do you have nat.gas ? do you want run a gas line and install a vent? how about installing a unit heater about $400. as a x-mas gift to the parents. be careful of the propane ventless heaters there burn up all the oxgen and make your eyes burn NO GOOD. maybe check out craigslist for a used house furnas or a unit heater Daye

I live in Oklahoma and usually it stays in the high 30's during the winter, but for a couple weeks of the year it gets in the 20's and gets pretty cold. Is there any electric heaters that you can just plug in that will at least warm it up a little? What about those attachments for propane tanks: are those worth it? I really would like to get one of those ceiling mounted heaters but it just isn't in my budget. I guess if there aren't any electrics out there then I'll just have to deal with the cold for now.

my .02 cents a elec. they don't put out much and they draw alot of power it seems like your always flipping the breaker. a small mrheater-sunflower heater mite cut the chill a little ,you can pick them up for pretty cheap , like under $50 then grap the 20# tank off the bbq grill , but rember to be careful with these that you get some fresh air and make sure that nothing falls onto the burner, a fire extinguisher maybe a good idea. The 500 watt halagen lights throw off alot heat like when your working under car , it help a little. daye

I live in Ohio so similar climate. I just did blown-in insulation and R13 on the exterior walls (with OSB over top). I am now able to run a 1500 watt electric heater and be comfortable in a short period of time. If it's really cold, I use my torpedo heater (with garage door raised slightly for venting) to bring the temp up quickly and then cut it off and use the electric one to maintain it. My garage is 20x24 so close to same size. I bought the electric heater at an auction.

When I was 19, I had to fix my car outside...in Flint Michigan. This was before global warming too.

Seriously though...since your parents are paying the electric bill anyway...I'd recommend getting 2 each 1500 W heaters at walmart and turning them on about 2 hours before you work out there if it's cold. You'll need to plug them in on different circuits, or it'll trip your breaker. When the power bill comes in, just act dumb.

p.s. The more I think about this...the more I think you should just "man up" and work in the cold. I didn't have a heated garage until I was 42. Kids these days! Har har.

Pewter I have one of these in my garage and I own an HVAC company it warms the garage up quick then I use a 1500 watt radiant heater to keep it warm while I am out there by the way warm to me is 55 - 60 degrees my garage is roughly 20X24 so about the same size also it looks like that door isnt insulated might wanna spend a couple bucks there too to keep the heat in the garage :D.

I have a 3 burner tank top propane heater that I use to heat my garage. The garage in insulated so it rarely gets below 40 degrees on the inside.

At full blast, the heater will take it up to 55 within 20-30 minutes. Then I turn it down and keep only one burner on to maintain the temp.

I've never really observed how quickly I go through propane but I do use a 40lb tank though so it last a while.
