New guy with a floor jack question

Hi All,

I'm recently joined and have been looking around at many of the threads going on around here. All good stuff. Especially the CI thread....which makes me want to head out one of these days and do a count of my own.

I have some older vehicles to restore and am looking forward to building my rotisserie based on many designs you all posted. Until I'm fully distracted by those projects, I still need to use my floor jack to do everday car and truck repairs. Only thing is, it's not holding vehicles up anymore. If I try to jack up my car, the jack starts to lower back down immediately when good weight gets on its back. This happened a few years ago and self rectified -which leads me to think there's a problem with a relief valve or something. I am one who really hates to toss something out when it just needs a bit of TLC to get back in shape. So, does anyone have thoughts on what could be wrong before I rip into into it blindly?

Here's the jack...It's a Sears from 1994.
