New guy with question about old Parker vise

My Aunt gave me this Chas Parker vise after my Uncle passed away, I am going to restore it best I can. I would like to know what the original color was so I can try to match it, I would also be interested in the value if any body knows.

I can't remember the model # on it and it is too hot to go out to look at it right now [102° currently] If I remember it has 4" smooth jaws. Thanks for any help.

That looks like a swivel base coachman’s vise. The comparable vise from Reed is a 224 and usually sells for around $200 - $300. I suspect this vise would sell for around the same. I don’t know what color it originally was.

Quite a few of us vise collectors here on this thread like to strip off the old paint using a hot bath in Simple Green or similar and then drying it thoroughly and then rubbing In one or more thin coats of Boiled Linseed Oil to prevent rust. That gives you a very handsome dark vintage looking satin finish.

But, like I have said before, “Your vise, your color”
I might be wrong, but I recall seeing some old Parkers looking handsome in a subdued shade of dark green. Personally, I would stay away from bright red.

I agree with Maui about value. Perhaps you could get more on eBay but you would have to deal with crating it up and shipping. It’s your departed uncle’s vise…keep it in the family.

Your vise is actually a sheet metal vise. You can find it in the old Parker catalogs but unfortunately those catalogs are not color. Guys tend to do the boiled linseed oil or charcoal with white lettering on these old rigs. Color choice isn't going to hurt the value. Do what you like.
