New guy here. I'm 55, Ret. USAF, work for the USN as a painter/blaster. I live in the North/Western US. I own a 1957 GMC Panel truck that needs lower door hinge boxes. I have the reproduction parts, the welder and will soon have a brand new garage to house my project.
I am looking for ideas/guidance on how to set up my 24'X36" garage.
I plan on a 10' X 20' MAN cave in the back; using the "hole' left for my 80 gallon upright air compressor, Shop Vac (plumbed through out the shop via schedule 40 plastic pipe), storage the floor jack, jack stands, creeper, engine hoist (it breaks down for storage) 220VAC Mig welder, etc.
I will have 1 single roll-up door and a 36" man door on the end/side.
I have my eye on some steel shelving 6'X6'X2' down 1 side and a 2"X6" stationary work bench on the man cave wall across the back of the shop. I will use 4"X4"s as legs and 2"X4"s for the cross-members. I have roll around butcher block topped 6'X2' work bench from Costco still in the box.
For lighting I am looking at either 8' or 4' florescent lighting.
To protect and enhance the floor and light quality I plan on using a light color Rust-oleum's Solvent based floor coating w/clear over it.
I have a free standing bench grinder, a vise, and a bench top drill press.
I also have lots of drawers (plastic) for parts.
I will also be doing a little woodwork in the shop. I have a table saw, many electric portable wood working tools as well.
I would like to tap into the knowledge so any input of ideas and possible issues would be very welcome!
