Hello to all... Just joined tonight. I live I Wilmington, NC and attempt to make my living selling my work in Steel and mixed media - I am a metal sculptor working for private commissions and what I love most... Public Sculpture

Very glad to be here and looking forward to learning more and helping anyone I can. Please feel free to ask any questions about my work or how I do what I do - I love sharing my work and my knowledge from the endless hours of trial and error of creating in steel.

Thank you for this forum - Looks fantastic and pleased to be part of your community.

My Best Regards,
Paul b Hill

You can go to www.paulhillsculpture.com and take a look at my web site. Most all of my recent work is posted there as well as some articles, studio space (small that it is) and other items.. Hope you like the work.

Thank you for asking and your welcoming me to the site.

Wow! I never expected such fantastic compliments like this before - Thank you all so much...I most appreciate your kind words.

The hand and poult (baby turkey) is made fro bronze plate with a green patina. The hand is 5-1/2 foot long and the chick is about 3 foot tall. It was made from 1/4 inch bronze round bar for the inner skeletal frame work and the skinning of the chick were sheets cut by hand with a plasma cutter outlined from a heavy bond paper stock template. All of the pieces were hand formed and welded together, ground to a somoothe finish. The hand was fashioned in the same manner.

Took me about 7 months to complete the project, but the client loved the piece... Although, I do not hope I have to make another of that type as it was one of the most difficult projects I have attempted Whew"

Paul they look great, you NEED to start a thread showing your workspace and what you do. There are a lot of talented people on here and then there are the rest of us who like to be motivated by the talented ones.

Stroudy - I would love to do that. There are a lot of talented people on this site. I am so glad to be included in this group of wonderful people. I usually do not get involved with to many groups online but you guys seem to have a lot going on with building, welding, making equipment, tables, and many exciting projects. My entry into sculpture began about 15 years ago. I have always been an artist doing one thing or another - but metal work has really hit the spot and you all have been incredibly supportive. I will look into the thread. I an not real computer liter it but can figure out what to do.

If I can be of any help to anyone with questions, I would love to help.

Thanks again to everyone this evening for such a wonderful, warm receiving welcome - I think this site is terrific. thanx to one and all.... But I am off to bed, as it has been another working day for me trying to finish up a commission - sort of a 7 day a week project.

I have really appreciated such warm welcomes since I signed up only yesterday (saturday). I really feel welcomed beyond compare. I do plan to be as active as I can. Strouty made me think more about showing or explaining what and how i work. I am in the middle of a project that has a Blue Heron landing atop a large Palm Frond. It is coming along nicely, but thought maybe I could begin a work video or time-lapse typr video showing progerss, fab methods, welding, plasma cutting, etc. I will try and pull this idea together and see if I can make some posts showing these working steps in process and the progression of the work. Kind of a documentation, which I have always wanted to try anyway. This gives me an even better reason to do this.

Tyler (Paul): if you start a thread in Fabrication section with a catchy name i'm sure you'll get a ton of followers. just ask if you have questions if you have any and the guys that have found your intro thread are all great guys that will help you if they can.

i personally have been hanging in old tools sections for years before i joined a couple years ago and i still spend a fair amount of time there. i want to learn to weld and make things from both wood and steel as i'm getting into the later part of my life with all 5 of our kids all on their own and doing great.

since we like pictures and lots of them have your camera at the ready while doing projects and take plenty of pictures and then post them on your thread as you have some down time. i really was scrolling through the pictures on your web site and was hoping for more when it ended.

cheers and welcome

Va.Grouseman - Thank you so much for your compliment. That means so much to me that the efforts I extend into my work are hopefully fulfilling my energies expended in their creation. Thank you again!
