Hi All, New guy here from the St Louis area. Stumbled across this forum while searching for an old Craftsman 506 vice. Seems like a cool board so figured i'd join!

A little about me: Married with a one year old boy, own an American Family Insurance Agency, love nights out in the shop working on old hot rods and muscle cars.

p.s. Still looking for a Craftsman 506 with 5" jaws if you know anyone

CAM: i've owned and own a lot of CRAFTSMAN vises and not sure i've heard of that model #. any chance you might have a few pictures of the one you like.

if i was going to buy a Craftsman vise i'd buy one of their 519x's and if you want a 4.5 inch wide jaw the 5197 is very hard to beat if you can find one. here's my 4 inch wide jaw 5196 and it's one of my favorite vises and i've got a few.

in case you hadn't notice we have the biggest vise thread on the internet and guys here seem to care what their vises are and how we use them.

welcome to the group and you are a busy guy with a 1 year old. are you having any more to keep him company?

cheers

Thank you for the reply! He does keep us busy and we plan to make him a big brother someday just not sure when.

As for the vise, the particular model that I'm drawn to would be 506-51810 or 506-51811. I like the anvil horn on the back and the fact that they are made in the US.

Attached pic was pulled from this forum.

CAM: fairly common Craftsman and it's made by Columbian maybe in the early 70's. as far as an anvil non of the cast iron vise's anvils were really meant for anything other than light duty so get yourself about a 6-12 inch piece of RR track to beat on.

if you have a pretty active Craigslist you should be able to find that model craftsman for $40-100 depending on jaw size. i've sold several members here similar ones in better shape for about $75, but with shipping hopefully you can find something closer and maybe bigger or in better shape.

feel free to PM me if you have any vise questions or get on one of the many vise threads and do a little light reading after you get done chasing your son around.

cheers and again welcome to the group
