Hey, first post. I've came across this board searching for things like snap-on warranties and general tool searches and finally decided to join. I'm just a typical tool/truck/car nut. I fly airplane for a living and in time off love working on car's and getting dirty. From the ammount of post's and members on this board I figure I'm not the only nut-job. Hoping to get some tip off's on tool sales and general tool discussion after joining. Now I've got another forum to mess with while sitting in hotel's all day!

I find it interesting that a pilot would be interested in tools ... usually pilots don't like turning wrenches and getting dirty. :dunno:

Yea, I've only flown with very few other guy's that like turning wrenches. Flew with a guy just the other day that has a '88 911 he's fixing up.

You're right in that most pilot's just write up maintenance discrepencies and leave it to the tech's to come out and fix. Me? I carry allen wrenches and a small screwdriver, that I know I can pass through security with, to tighten lose knobs and such instead of calling a mech out to waste his time doing that when he would be replacing tires/brakes/engine oil checks/bleed valves, etc... When they come out to fix big stuff on my airplane that trip I usually go out and watch what they're doing to see how that particular part is installed and how it works. It's pretty invaluable knowledge if that part fails in flight and you can go through your head what it could be and what you shouldn't do afterwards.

Welcome, There's a few pilots here that like to wrench also. Many years ago, I couldn't afford to pay someone to fix my car while in Primary Flight training and then College. Learned to fix stuff myself and spent the difference on hours in the C152, and Piper Warrior/Arrow. Good times. -Patrick
