Hi guys,
I'm looking into building a garage with a second floor for winter boat storage and summer time hanging out. Ideally it would be 40ish by 50ish with a 12' ceiling. I'm not interested in having any posts to support the second story. I'm seeing floor trusses that extend to 37'11" but nothing to 40.

Does anyone else have any experience with something like this? I'm not finding much out there.

Thanks,
Dan

May I suggest you update your location as in future you may find that helps you when you have specific questions that affect you. Specially given the forum has a very global membership. Often you will find subjects may get different answers depending on locations and regulations.

Thanks for the note, this really makes sense. What works in Texas or AU is much different than the snow load where I am. The garage I'm working on is in Upper Michigan, USA. Average snow fall of 200+ inches.

Welcome to the forum.
You might talk to someone who builds airplane hangers; 40'+ clearspans are very common in that industry. R&M Steel is the first name that comes to mind; They provide a top-notch building. I'm sure there are others closer to you.

My sticking point is the second floor. I'd like to have 40' floor trusses to support living space above. There is a local specialty truss company to accommodate for the snow load, but the web info isn't the best. I'm planning on calling them this week and i'll update the thread. Once I actually have a plan and progress I'll do a build thread.
