You guys are inspiring me.
I'm in the process of cleaning up/restoring my dad's hand-me-downs. He's one of those guys who never gave up anything that might have a life. The hammer head was loose, and has no identifying marks. I tried all of the local places but everything they had was too big. Handle is cherry--strong enough for whatever work it will do.
The screwdriver is 21 inches. It has never been sharpened. The celluloid handle was simply disintegrating (of course until I tried to take it off--smells like camphor when cut). It was manufactured by Reiff and Nestor. When I called them, the one guy old enough to remember said that they had stopped making them in the 1950s. Apparently they still make high end taps and dies. Screwdriver handles are even tougher to find, but an industrial Snap-on guy came through.
